Hyannis MA 2012 Squid Season
#21
All n all t's very slow off Hyanns. Thngs seemed to start off well last Monday but quckly deterorated to the point where most of the boats were just driving around looking almost no one was anchored whch is a clear sign of no real bite. I tried from Hyannis to Mashpee from 6 to around 1 yesterday and only had about 40 squd al day to show for it. Tomorrow is the first day the draggers can fish so this will shake things up and the fishng won't be good while they are around 'till 5/1. Stage Harbor is stll fishng well though my last report was that the bite wasn't good untl the early AM, after 1.

Takng the day off...tired of burning 4$ gas for nothing back. I won't be going again until after the draggers are gone unless it is apparent that there is enough to make some $.

Good luck out there.

Worked my way from Mashpee to Orleans yesterday. After catching a handfull of schoolies in Orleans I headed up to Chatham for the squid bite.Caught about 30 good sized squid from 8-10.The place was real crowded when I left, probably 40+ people.Tons of squid, they just weren't that hungry I guess.Tried wychmere after and not a single bite.Anybody have any advice for fishing for squid from a boat?I have a 21cc and launch out of the popponessett area,I've always stuck to the docks but am sick of the crowds... Any good spots in the sound?

50 pounds sucks. With all the squids I saw, shoulda been more like 500+....there are a lot of squid in Stage harbor and they are getting them right off the pier at night.

[/quote]. Your a know it all don't stop your day job I jig up 1500 pounds in the skiff last night in stage in CHATHAM

Chatham definitely has squid this year.. Also has 59 a**holes casting literally on top of each other. If you don't bring a boat be sure to bring a shotgun. Some real pieces of work occupying the docks..lol.

How much are squid selling for? Too windy today, didnt get out. Things are pretty stirred up. Hopefully it will still be good.

2 yo zuri lures rigged high low and 4-8 oz has worked for me for years in our area.

when the bite heats up from around lone rock off cotuit to osterville 1 to colliers ledge you will no doubt know it -- you will see the squid fleet -- it will be out there and would be very hard to miss.

if you're out there on your own, drop it over within 500 yards of lone rock any direction, see what happens.
