Harimitsu Jigs

Gday folks



Has anyone tried the Harimitsu Squid jigs ? I noticed them at a BCF close to me , the bloke at the shop said he loved them but not sure if that was a sales pitch or not . Ive been using the Yamashita warm jacket ,Egi OH Q Live jigs but would always be keen to try something if it equalled more squid.

I'll just take off my Rapala cap, and put on my generic eging cap on.



Personally, I think the new warm jacket egi from Yamashita are better.

When I go out with a mate, we've used a few brands, and he always goes back to the Yamashita.

Personally I use a mix of Rapala & Yamashita.



But then, there's others who prefer Harimitsu over Yo-Zuri, Yamashita etc.



I guess buy 1 & try it out?



But surely you can find them cheaper?

I have a selection of Harimitsu jigs and they are fantastic.



If you're going to buy some do not buy them in Australia as they are a overpriced, as most Japanese jigs are here.



I get mine from Japan Pro Fishing ([url="http://www.japanprofishing.com/"]http://www.japanprofishing.com/[/url]) for $10-$12 each and shipping starts at $13.



Yamashita's warm jacket technology is all marketing.



Fish are cold blooded, their body tempurature is dictacted by the change in the ambient water temperautre, so when Yamashita says "They, the squid, feel the temperature difference between the real and fake. They will touch the live jig because it has almost the same temperature as a real bait fish." they are lying through their teeth.



I've tested the warm jacket jigs myself and they reach the ambient water temperature not long after contact.

I actually stopped off after work today and brought a Harimitsu just to try out as you said Ojingo cant hurt . Just have to wait till next week when i get out into Botany to give it a go , thanks both for your replies .

Casting Yo-Zuri & the older Yamashita's along side the new warm jackets, and all I can say is that they seem to work well.



And I work for a company that competes with them.

A week.



They were packaged extremely well and the JPF employes are very helpful.



The range of colours in cloth and foil are fantastic, which is great if you want to fish one cloth colour under differnt levels of light.



Here is a picture of my first order and the colours are: Orange Rainbow, Pink Rainbow, Purple Purple, Red Red, Melon (Green Gold) and Weed Clear Blood.







I can't recommend Weed Clear Blood enough if you're fishing seagrass patches or kelp on a nice bright day and the Red Red is like dangling the squid equivalent of heroin at the end of your line.



The Kibinago Silver and Aji Gold are great too, they look a lot like baitfish.

Why would you abandon scientific data about the anotomy of fish based on, I assume, a higher catch rate that could be explained by a number of factors.



Differnt foil colour, different levels of reflection due to the density of the cloth and/or dullness of the foil, different sinking rate and/or different sinking angle etc.



Cephalapods are visual hunters, they have one of the most advanced eyes out of all other known marine life.

Actually, while most fish are cold blooded, they can still produce metabolic heat.

Thus, while that heat is quickly dropped via the gills, they're body temp will vary from the water temp a by 1 or 2 degrees.



So no lying through their teeth in that regard.

I looked on the JPF site and seen alot were sold out , like the Aji red , Weed clear blood 3.0. The one i brought was the Aji black 2.5 , has any of you used that ? What areas are you Ojingo & reLapse squiding? land or boat ? I used to fish Port Kembla/Windang a bit but now ive got a lil boat ive bit going to Botany Bay , mainly around Yarra Bay for the squid but there are other areas .

They restock pretty quickly, shoot them an email and they'll give you an eta on any product you're interested in.



Another site is Samurai Tackle (www.samuraitackle.com), I'd recommend them as much as I recommend JPF but their prices are higher by $1-$3 per jig.



I fish by land and boat in Sydney Harbour, Port Hacking and Swansea.



I prefer Swansea for chasing squid because I prefer arrow head squid over the southerns, for eating and bait, and they are prevalent there.

Though I use to do Bear Island & Yarra Bay as well. (might try again when this weather settles a little).



Sometimes I'm at Hill 60 too.

Hell Yes, part of the reason I haven't been there lately.

When I do go, I'm usually down the bottom near water level where the Vietnamese guys are, not up on that rock ledge.



Let me know how you go ordering from JPF, I'm looking at some gear from them too.

I've only used JPF and Samurai to purchase jigs because the sites are in english, they have upfront shipping fees, good prices and a wide range.



As for other tackle I've used Plat, JDM and East Tackle.
