Penobscot Bay

never fished for squid before,a buddy of mine told me about it,said it could be lots of fun and quite a culinary reward.i live in midcoast maine on the penobscot bay by a jetty in searport where it's said they have been caught.i'd just like to pick some brains on how to get started,how to find out if the squid "are in'' and maybe some tablefare suggestions...thanks

Look for the stains mate. If there are squid there and people have been catching them, there should be black ink stains on the jetty or pier. then get down there when the sun is coming up or as it hits the water on the way down and get yourself a nice feed.

light line 3-4 kg a cheap squid jig from kmart the razor back ones with the prongs on the back as well as the tail are good a flimsy rod and small eggbeater. these are the first things i put together when i started fishing for squid im a bit of a rookie my self but it should be a good start <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
