hello everyone this is what i call squid fishing!!!! WHAT A LAUGH!!!!!!

YES BOYS!!!IF YOUR ALL WONDERING HOW THIS SET UP WORKS ..WELL THERE ARE 3 LINES ON ONE SIDE OF THE BOAT AND 3 ON THE OTHER ,IF YOU WANT YOU CAN JUST HAVE ONE ON EACH SIDE OR EVEN ONE ON EITHER SIDE THATS UP TO YOU ,BUT OFCOURSE THE MORE LINES THE MORE SQUID YOU CATCH...I HAVE 30 TO 40 JIGGS ON A LINE ,THATS ALSO UP TO YOU ,AND ALSO DEPENDS ON THE DEPTH OF THE WATER. THAT WHEEL IN THE CENTER HAS A HANDLE ON THE END AS YOU CAN SEE ME HOLDING ,AND AS YOU COME UP WITH ONE SIDE THE OTHER 3 LINES ARE GOING DOWN , THEN WHEN YOU HAVE ONE SIDE UP YOU TURN THE WHEEL IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND THE OTHER 3 LINES ARE THEN COMMING UP ,AND THE 3 LINES THAT YOU PULLED UP JUST A SEC AGO IS NOW GOING DOWN!!!! JUST A SINGLE LINE IS EVEN FUN TO USE AND VERY EASY TO MAKE!!!

Only one problem with your setup and if we tried to replicate it in Australia,...

Looks interesting, but im not sure on the legality.

I dont know what the ruling is on the number of jags you can have on a line. I know in SA its 3 hooks - so maybe its 3 jags as well??

Also, you can only have 2 rods/handlines per person over here, so thats illegal!



30-40 jigs on a line - so if i got a squid on half of them, in one pull id have to go home - 15 is the bag limit!!



And thats just not fishing - whats the fun in having a machine doing the work for you - its not as if your actually catching them!!

I DIDNT KNOW THAT YOU GUYS HAS A BAG LIMIT ON YOUR SQUID.YOU DIDNT THINK THERE WAS ANY FUN IN USING A MACHINE ?? WELL ITS NOT REALLY A MACHINE ITS ALL MANUEL WORK, AND WHEN THE SQUID IS STRICKING HARD YOU NEED TO HAVE LOTS OF STRENTH IN YOUR ARMS!!!!!!! IT WILL QUICKLY TIRER YOU OUT IF YOUR NOT IN SHAPE!! AND WHEN THE DAY IS DONE ..THIS IS WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE!!!! HAHHAHAHHAHAHHAAHAHAHA

BY THE WAY HOW DO YOU CATCH THEM ...???YOU MUST USE SOME KIND OF INSTRUMENT OR MACHINE OR TOOL!!! UNLESS YOUR THE CROCODILE HUNTER!!!

where do you come from and were abouts do you go squid fishing?



i notice in the pic, that you use the older style squid jigs.

have you tried the yozuri "prawn imitation" style squid jigs?

what about baited jigs?



i like your set up with all those jigs.

wish i could have done the same, but here in nsw, australia we are only allowed 4 lines per person, with up to 3 squid jigs per line.

and a bag limit of 20 per person/day.







this is me with a large cuttle fish that i caught, a few days ago , while fishing for squid.

You asked where i come from...i live on the east coast of canada{.newfoundland} i have never seen the kind of jiggs that you asked me have i tryed. where can i see them ???

That fish that you have there.....i cant see it any good ,i cant picture it ,,,is it upside down??? ive never seen one like that before. by the way that wasnt me in that picture, its a friend of mine.

You have never seen the Yo-zuri prawn style jigs before??? Go to my main page [url="http://www.squidjig.com"]www.squidjig.com[/url] and look at the Tiger Prawn and Tiger Fish styles.



These are the most popular styles in other areas.

a cuttlefish is something between a squid and an octupuss i'de say.

i dont know in wich parts of the world it lives, but here in sydney, australia there is a lot of them.

i know my picture holding it, is not that clear.

i have found these "prawn style" of jigs to be the most effective on squid.

Squid head - we use a rod and line, with a jag attached - cast it out and slowly wind it in............And yes a 15 bag limit per person applies, 45 per boat......

Hey there Profesas, nice picture,i have never seen a fish like that before, pretty neat looking,,do you eat them?????? you asked me did i ever try baited jiggs ,well no i have never seen that kind either ,i dont think it would work here , not on our squid haulers ,,take to much time!!!180 jiggs , but i guess you just must bait one hook uh???we call that a hand line, its just a jigg or two and than a sinker on a line and we fish it around 30 to 35 feet .until the squid come than we use our haulers.

I don't know why the Prawn style squid jigs wouldn't work on your jiggers. Would your jiggers work ok if you just tied off on the top end of your jig, and let the bottom end be free??? Seems to me it should work fine??? And it would be a better looking lure for the squid to grab, than a red piece of plastic???



Just a thought!!! Could be worth a try??? Especially when the squid are not biting well...

i think its an excellent setup Squidhead and yeah yer mate looks covered lol, i was like that last year when i got caught by one looking over the side of the boat, just as it broke the surface.



I think as a commercial setup thats the best ive seen, we currently use 2 machines called Hurdy Gurdies, for mackeralling they work on the same principle except we use 30-35 hooks per line and the whole setup takes up a lot of room as the lines cross the boat hooks and all, but again volume is the aim so they fill boxes quicker the better.

Hi its been along time since I visited this site and I didnt see your responds, concerning your question, no the jiggs would not work tied on one end because when the squid came into the boat they would not fall off unless i took each one off manuelly, that would take a long time, so with them tied to both ends, that way when the jig turns upside down the squid falls off by its self.
