It's a vaseline consistency gel with different fish scents infused in it. The name of the stuff that I use is Procure (I';ll get the exact name tomorrow). You rub the stuff on the jig every so often. It works as an attractant.

Nice night down Jamestown dock.I got there around 8:30pm and stayed till midnight.Slowly more people showed up with a few generators and they were catching squid. The 2 guys next to me had a cooler full by midnight.
I had crap luck..maybe i need a lighter rod..lighter line...no clue.Seems they were biting on both small and large jigs.I will give it another shot tonight with another set-up and see what happens. The wind was pretty cold down there so dress accordingly if your going to be spending all night there,Good luck and TC
Are we going to fill the freezer this year? I am finding generators on craigslist, coming up with catching technologies and thinking about getting that t-shirt idea off the ground (finally) Looking forward to the cherry blossoms to tell us it's time. Cheers!
Big schools are finally in Narragansett Bay and they are hungry!

Sorry for the lack of reports. We had a death in the family and I haven't been able to fish since Sat night. Probably won't get out again until this sat. Hoping things keep going a little longer. I was down to the fish dealer today and his report is slow as well. I am the only one to bring him squid this year so far. And the draggers aren't doing too well either. Well, happy fishing.
Mike

The dock i was at is past Fort Wetherill.I believe DEM has a few Buildings there and there is a small boat marina. To the right is a fishing area with picnic tables, from the water it will be left of the marina. If you going at night you will probably see plenty of lights, the generators were quiet imo.PM me if you need more info,Good luck

Last time I was at GI I tried to start a wave of fishing rods. I was telling everyone on the bridge to lift their rods right after the person on their right, the people werent too enthusiastic about it though. I thought it was a great idea. Where is the love?
Also, what size shrimp hunter should I get for GI? I dont know what size the yo-zuris I use now are. thanks skipper <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boat.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> G.I.S.S. #011

how do you think a 1.5" jig will do? Is that too small? I guess I will try and find out, compare them to the 2.5 shrimp hunter

It should work. More so this year than last I am catching very large squid on small prawn weighted jigs and very light tackle. Conditions that work best are calm sunny days with little wind and clear water. |
