These inkers were caught on a beautiful summer morning which I also shared with a close mate. We ended up with 8 in total and these were my 5, and were the last squid I caught on my daughter's soft plastic fishing rod which has become my squid fishing rod for the last 2 years until I recently purchased a specialist squid rod - it's a $50 Shimano Catana and it is a great squid rod, but I had to spoil myself with the new rod (plus my daughter wanted her rod back!).
My mouth is watering looking at those lovely squids <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

After a week or so I had to get out again. Tried another new spot with a mate and after we caught 6 in the first 30 mins we had to vacate as the tide moved up. Fished an old faithful spot and we did it tough for the next 1 1/2 hrs catching another 5. All in all we got 11. With the official count me 7 and my mate 4 <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> . I am still teaching him the ropes. Here are 6 of mine ( I had one escapee <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> ).

hey mate im a new member of this website. i love my squid fishing and have ever since i was given a squid jig to try. i have a question i have noticed that on the full moon the squid havent been on the bite as much. do you find this the case as well. are there any familiar spots you try that produce on a regular basis. i have tried kiama, gunnamatta bay, captain cook (which is where i first learnt and caught my first and also my biggest which was a 50cm tube), port kembla, shellharbour, avoca beach off the rocks. anyways if your willing to share some local knowledge just send me a message im planning to head out tonight possibly bundeena or cronulla way. take it easy look to hear from you soon

squid hunter, I haven't found the full moon to be not that bad at all. Most of my night tailor fishing off sydney rocks is done on big moons and I always find that there is always a "squid encounter" on our pilchard baits set under floats. I have fished the last two full moons and for inkers and have caught over twenty combined.

My advice as far as fishing spots are concerned is try to fish areas where others aren't! Most "recognised" squid spots get hammered on a daily basis. Although they are a quick growing cephalapod they can be overfished in crowded areas or can become spooked if there's plenty of divers / swimmers.

My squid spots have been found by doing legwork - pick a nice sunny day with a low tide and go for a drive to some sheltered bays along the coast and look for those kelp beds and if they have some intermittent sand bottom or are a known bait ground even better. Try these spots on a high tide in low light / night time

nice mate. thanks for the advice although it would be great if i could swim haha. not trying the diving experience i do know of other spots though i can try them. although they are hard to access at night with barely any light if any at all at times. i can also understand your point about tailor fishing. i had a nasty encounter with a squid when i was tailor fishing late afternoon and ran into a race 35 cm squid. took 4 of us a very long net and about 20 minutes to get the thing in

How much does that squid jig cost? Is that yozuri brand?

Well it's been over 2 months since my last fish and decided to go to a nice easy spot as I slept through my alarm clock and missed first light. Well it was a little slow with only three squid in the 1hr 15 mins I fished this morning. I was just about to give it away when zzzzzzzzzing, the little Daiwa Egi reel lets off a scream with 30 metres of line with it. After a couple more torrid runs and about 6 minutes later I finally get this monster in, thanks to another squid fisherman 20 metres away who picked it up off the rock for me after I washed it in - he must have heard the reel drag zinging and saw my rod buckled over and came over to lend a hand! He also took these pics <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> Thank you!! Enjoy the pics- not the best as taken from my blackberry.

I haven't fished Wollongong - only the Sydney coast and bays/harbours.

You should be able to find some locations off the rocks that provide some shelter and have kelp beds, or maybe even some of the wharves that provide some lit up areas and kelp beds again.

Maybe some other forum members might be able to assist

Cheers

It would be a southern. Colour change to a very light sandy not long after capture.
