Reading this got me wondering about what do squid actually see, so I did a quick web search and found this.
Mostly just general information on squid but maybe something might be of interest to some of you.

Hi all, I reckon when full moon, the best colour is black. try it on if you hook on the biggest on, give me a big hug for sure ~

I've never tried black color but it seems it works well on dark weather and at dusk .

I'm more a general Fisho than a squid expert.
But from my findings around Lorne and out to 50meters of water, a Pink Prawn style jig has outpreformed others in the water at the same time.
It is also my favourite one, can't remember what brand, but it was $$$ compared to those cheap, buy a bag of 3 types.
Looks more hand made.... but unfortunitly, it's also starting to die from over use.
Plus it has never worked as well since it got a small patch of squid ink on it around the white belly section.
After reading this thread though.... i'm trying baited squid jigs next!

Out of the range of colors i have in the tackle box the most battle scarred seem to be a yo zuri 2.0 Redish reflective pink on top, some white underneath with a few bands of black on the side.
The next most battle scarred one is the black jig. Sims to work well in overcast days.

Cuttlefish eyes are radically different to those of squid....have a close look next time you catch one

Each to their own...noting there is no right or wrong answer.
But natural colours, browns, gold and silvery blue are great during the day.

I have more succes with bright colours in the day and dark colours at night , but the bright colours in the day make it easier to see your jig when sight fishing....go figure???
but some days they just have a boner for a certain colour
if so ....USE IT!!!

for me the 2.0 pink jig works good i had a orange 2.0 and did nuffing change to the pink one and bang in 10 mins i had 3 which was a miracle.

Beleive it or not, I have a purple yamashita that catches a lot...in fact, its one of my more productive (smaller) jigs.
With that said, pink has always worked well. Green & blue also.

I have to add to this thread now... only because my Pink Yo-Zuri jig on the last 4 outings hasn't caught a thing.
And on one of those days, I actually watched a squid swim towards it, only to get within 600mm and then turn in the other direction...
My mate was doing fine with his green jig on the other side of the boat...
I thought it was just a day thing... but it has failed to produce on the next 3 outings.
I'm going to try a natural coloured jig next.... Still haven't tried the baited jig either.

Hi all, new to the site.
Have been calamari fishing for a while now and I generally head to blairgowrie, sorrento and portsea and by far the best jig colour in my experience is dark brown/green and black.
I've stopped using Yo-zuri jigs as I've had much better success with dark coloured jigs with black hooks, yamashita make some great colours.
