Calamari And Climate Change?
#1
Does anyone know if calamari will become more common in future due to climate change?

If the eastern australian current gets stronger and brings warmer water to Vic. we could see changes in growth and reproduction.

Interested in your thoughts.

Cheers

It would be great if we got more and bigger squid! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> But I have no idea about whether this is likely. I was squidding on the weekend and it was not very good! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

I am not sure they will grow bigger, faster perhaps, but they already grow fast!! We may get some other species of octopus and cuttlefish from further north more common in Vic.

Who knows?

there was an article a while ago in one of the fishing world/modern fishing mags that said that it would be very very likely that there would be an increase in squid, cuttle and occies due to the climate change, as there was already an increase in them. if i can dig up that issue ill scan it and post.
