Best beer on earth
#1
Hi all,

Now everyone knows that SPEIGHTS is the best beer on earth so I was just wondering why you cannot buy it in Australia?

Cheers, Sample <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer_mug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer_mug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer_mug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

Hey Mr Willy, I have tried Coopers Pale Ale. Not a bad drop. Is Coopers from South Australia?

Thanks for posting so much lately. It will help revive the board a bit i am sure. Maybe everyone has been hibernating through the winter.

Cheers, Glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Yeah, Glen, made right here in good old South Oz - i love it, but im more of a bourbon drinker (love jim beam).

And the posting - no worries, its coming into squid season here, just waiting for some constant warm weather and the water to clear up, so i thought i might come in here and see if i cant get some help to improve my success rates!

Keep up the good work, mate!

Best beer = Asahi Super Dry. It is imported, so a bit more expensive than VB, but tastes like heaven. Sure you can't get Speights in Oz? I'd like to try it.

Yeah I have tried Asahi. Very nice beer I agree. It nice to go to Dan Murphy's every once in a while and pick a few new beers and give them a try. Negra modello from mexico is also worth trying.

I saw speights on sale once in a coles liquor store in brisbane but I think the manager was a kiwi. Another new zeland beer i have seen recently on sale in melbourne is monteith's but it is not as good as speights. Another very good NZ beer is called "Tui". I think it is a north island beer. Speights is a south island beer. There is a bit or rivallry between the two islands it seems.

Cheers!

Hi Glen,

Cheers for the Speights link, I just got a good looking beer batter recipe from their website. Yes, Tui is nice, also Steinlager. I'll keep Negra modello in mind! I have been homebrewing for a few years now with Coopers kits, they are great, especially real ale and india pale ale.

I found another dark beer I like:

Grimbergen DUBBEL

several malts and double fermentation.

Alc. 6.5 % vol.

Flavour: An abbey beer, Burgundy in colour, very full bitter-sweet flavour with hints of caramel.

Grimbergen Dubbel is a fantastic name for a beer, I'll have to try it.

I have a nice drinking home-brewed stout at the moment, about 8-9% alcohol, Glen remind me to bring a bottle to the next floundering trip!

The Captain recommends Steel Reserve 211. 8% alcohol and tastes like jet fuel. Get's the job done though.

I do pound a few Foster's every now and then though! Haw ! Foster's is the only Australian lager that I can find here in my area of Florida, USA.

Glen,

It's pretty potent. I buy it in 24 ounce cans for $1.00. It's not the greatest but it is cheap. I don't know if you can get it in your neck of the woods!
