Mornington report - VIC
|
Hi guys, fished mornington pier friday night, saturday night and sunday night. Absolutley nailed the squid, we bagged out on all the nights we went.. Pier was packed full of people, it seems to amaze me the amount of people continuosly doing the wrong thing and taking bag loads of the squid. I mean dont these people have any decency. Mostly asian folk.. Its ridiculous and i think more of the guys and girls doing the right thing should let these people know whats the right way is. I mean fisheries dont seem to take any notice of it. I certainly am trying to put a stop to it. On a better note, yamashita naturals in size 2 worked best..... Get down there and give it a go

Fisheries are just a phone call away. Did you ring them? I think they have an office in Mornington now.

yes we have rung fisheries for last 3 weeks in a row and on all occassions they havent even bothered to show up, pretty ridiculous in my opinion.. we even got regos of the cars and yet still nothing. Im starting to think they dont even care

maybe give a friendly reminder to these exceeding the bag limit? most people knowingly do the wrong thing because they think no one would care, but if someone do care, they might felt ashamed and stop.

I agree with Nautilusly. Sometimes people simply don't know, sometimes they do and it's the same all over the world. If you remind them they might learn from it but if they already know they are doing the wrong thing it doesn't really help but at least they'll know that people do notice and care.
We're any of them in a group of more that one. Coz my brother and I tend to share the bag <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' /> Makes us feel better about our catch. Many times i've landed squid and seriously thought about throwing it back eventhough it's not small, sometimes i feel like giving it a chance to grow even more. Anyways, we can all just do what we think is right. It certainly helps the re-eduction process if the proper authories show up once in a while. I'm hoping to get to mornington again this weekend... though i want to catch the weather to see if there's a Big H floating around above us. Oh, that reminds me, i gotta get my fishing licence renewed this month <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

oh yeah my licence is almost up too. i got one of those 3 year licences last time round which was good... at least it gave me a break from worrying about the licence for a good stretch <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

g'day guys im new to this forum to try and get some help and actually catch some squids, i have just bought my very first rod n a couple of squid jigs tried to fish at mornington pier last friday n this saturday. i tried to use a pink, orange jigs 2.0 and 3.5. went at the biggining of the big pier where the rocks are n d other side where the boats are and still no luck <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> even tried doing a fast tugging motion then letting it sink and still nothing, was ther for bout 2 hours n gave up <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> . should i try different coulours or sizes? or even try a baited one?
please help i think this is a good sport to get into and i enjoy doing it but i need some poiters from the pros. thanks. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
hi mate,
i have fished mornington a few times in the last few years i reckon its a shithouse place to fish for squid. too many people for a few small squid, i may be wrong, maybe ive never seen it fire. from what ive seen at mornigton you should be fishing the inside close to the start of the pier, try a few different methods, cast out wind in with a few pauses. or fish straight down try and get your jig down deep. some of my biggest squid latley have come from only a few inches of the bottom try and get further down the penisula, we have been doing well lately. get yourself some smaller jigs, 1.8 or 2 grams. in a red or brown colour. good luck mate cheers
welcome mate...
i can definitely vouch for mornington pier as one of the top performing piers for squid !!! iv expierenced it all and so has many on this forum. Rob is right about your jigs for mornington, you would be using 1.8 and 2.0 jigs. i'd forget about the baited jigs for mornington...squid are small at mornington. baited jigs would be good at other places such as portsea, queenscliff, flinders....anything further than mornington i guess. squid at mornington come in HUGE numbers...once their going off, their off. you would get a bucket load if your fishing with afew mates. iv been there plenty of times and bagged out 80% of the times. you should fish from the start of the pier and all the way out - probably up that little hill going upwards. i personally think the boat dock side out performs the other side however both sides do catch. as for squid jigs, any of the jap brands and i personally love pink !!! my opinion, go buy a yo-zuri 1.8 size in pink. thats the one i do best on !!! iv seen mornington pier go on fire plenty of times. yes you are right, it does get very packed during the day, not too bad at night though... but boi it goes on fire !!! once theres squid, EVERYBODY gets a bucket load ! mornington would be my number 1 place for catching the most squid. other places are slow and doesnt go on fire however the outcome is - mosterous squids !!! go luck - and keep us updated on how u go, anymore queries just ask !!! i would like afew feedback on how mornington is going, i havnt been wetting a line since summer was over.

I was there sunday night... it wasn't too productive!!! .... didn't see a lot of squid coming out
I got 1 from 6pm to 8pm, my friend got 1 as well, but he could not handle the rod well as he is newbie 2... It is good using 2.0 or less in mornington.. I was using blue 1.8 or my mate is orange... When I left, I didn't see other 3 people getting any squid...(1 caught a small squid, but didn't take it) but saw a lot of fishes there... very thin( name may start with M) Saw a guy using jig and caught 4 or 5 of them in 2 hours. there was a large number in a group, 50+?

hope I am right:O
the motion should be let it sinks for few sec, pull back the rod and retrieve the line a bit...wait few sec and reply the steps in fact, it wasn't easy to get a small squid jig... I found it on ebay... they are 1.2 in size...:> good in mornington... I got it from Altona North... I saw another seller is around danenong...but a bit expensive than where i got <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I am learning how to squid... please assist me and teach me to squid cheers
