Before i ask anything, i must say this is the best site on the internet. Great to be a part of it now. My question is i want to upgrade my squid rod and reel. I have looked at a few rods, and i have a few in mind. One is a brand called gladiator, that have made a 2 piece rod specifically for squid, it felt great to hold, was full graphite, and well balanced. The other was the pflueger Rod medalist, also full graphite, very light, special rollers, and very comfortable. The pflueger wasn't specifically designed for squid, but it was very suitable. Have any of you guys used either of these rods? what do you reccomend? Alla help is appreciated, and thanks in Advance fellas <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

I have used some gladiator products and they seem ok. If you end up choosing the pflueger, have a look on ebay to see what the prices are like. The last rods I bought were 2 fly rods, both from ebay, and both were pretty cheap and good quality, .... i remember there was lots of pflueger items for sale.
cheers, glen

hi glen, i bought the gladiator rod today. I also bought a shimano symetre 2500 with it. The rod is medium action, 2 piece and 7'2''. I have to give them credit it feels great to use, really light and nice balance, and the real is fantastic. I was tying the jig onto the main line braid, but it didnt feel good, so i tied a polycarbon leader and tied the jig onto that, and it felt much better. Do you think it would be a good idea to connect the main line and leader via swivel, or do you think i should take the time to join them with a knot?
i went squiding tonight to try the rod out, the squids were small and slow to bite. I was fishing the lilli pilli area. I might go to La parouse tomorow, to test out the gear, hope i catch something.

I bought the same rod a few weeks ago and use about the same size reel. My other squid rod is a daiwa procaster nice and whippy thats how I like it but I am getting used to the Gladiator rod .Where did you buy yours from ? I use 6pound plattil braid in yellow for vis and I tie a 20 to 30 pound mono leader to the braid and that keeps me out of trouble

i got my rod from amazon in Liverpool for $120. I am using 6lb camo braid with a 10lb black magic leader. The stick is a bit stiffer than my other rod i was using (fibreglass uglystick) this is the first time i use graphite, i hope i dont break it.

Gday Rod, you should ALWAYS take the time to join braid to leader using a knot, never a swivel (which will affect sink rate of your jig, and ability to keep contact with the jig). I always use the double uni knot and it has never let me down <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Mate that was a good price I paid 150 for mine <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> . I also do the double uni not like JazMan cant beat it I find it to be a strong knot to join braid to mono
