Does any one know if a saltwater fishing license is needed to fish for squid in RI his year? I live in Mass and I was told that if I have a Mass saltwater fishing license this year I will be covered to fish in RI and NH.
#5
as of right now, January 10, 2011 6:45pm east coast time you DO NOT need a license to fish for squid in RI. that however could change with the DEM as we get closer to the spring

As of right now, RI will be accepting recreational salt water licenses from MA, CT and NY.

You can get the regulation information from the following site:

http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/bpoladm/m...ishing.htm

Click on "Online Recreatinoal Saltwater Fishing Licenses" and then click on "read the Requirements" to get all teh info.

I cant wait for spring...Fish, squid, the revamped sox...hell, I just miss mowing & weed wacking the lawn.

I'm thinking of ice fishing myself. Bought some ice fishing gear a couple yrs ago but never got around to actually going.

Do you target larger lakes or small/med sz ponds?
#9
I have fished GI Bridge and Fort Wetherill. Both with some success. GI Bridge is great but often too crowded. Any other places anyone can suggest?

Hey Mr. Brian,

I generally fish locally in eastern mass as it's more convenient. That means i'm primarily targeting smaller and medium size ponds. I do make a few trips out to the Berkshires every year as they have some amazing ice fishing. It's where I learned to ice fish actually. Caught a bronze pin pickerel out there last January. Hope to catch another one this year!

I'm completely addicted to ice fishing. I fish freshwater all year round but once i picked up ice fishing I realized it was probably the most productive fishing I do. It's when I catch the most and the biggest fish consistently all year. I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have regarding ice fishing.

According to the current regs, you do NOTneed a saltwater license to fish for squid in Rhode Island:

Anyone who is recreationally fishing for shellfish, lobsters, crabs, or squid, does not need a recreational fishing license (or a federal registration). However, a separate RI recreational lobster license is needed to take lobsters, and for non-residents, a separate recreational shellfish license is needed to take shellfish. Additionally, non-residents may not harvest blue crabs.

I am ready!!!!!!

I have a 15 year old fiberglass bass boat that I was thinking about using for squid fishing. I would like to hear the pros and cons of doing this. I am not worried about getting squid ink on the boat or carpet. Have any of you guys fished the ocean from a bass boat??

That would work great...just depends where you plan on going. I wouldn't head out at night to fish the Vineyard Sound in that rig, but anchoring up inside a harbor with good weather and you would be fine. It all depends on where and when you want to go. Too many factors keep it from a simple answer...If you have any doubts, don't go.

I would only fish around the GI area on a calm evening. Nothing crazy. Just trying to get away from the crowded bridge.

I'm so ready to start my 2011 saltwater season. Went to the ne fish show last weekend and geared up. Found some decent pink jigs for a $1 a piece. Planning my first trek April. Can't wait to see old faces. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Tatonka, I bought some of those very same jigs! The were the right color, not too big and for a buck each? What isn't to get? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I just finished mounting the 2000 watt lights to the outriggers for the boat.

I missed the show. I assume those were show prices. Do you know if the company was local or if they sell on-line?
