well i'm laotian and news fly quickly amongst the community... i'll let you guys know if i hear anything... btw... we like to let our jigs sink to the very bottom... try using a #2 ounce sinker... my technique... use about a 7-10 second count between each jig up and down...
Thanks bud, we'll be out there tonight and see if the warm weather changes things up for the better...
Sort of a light house on the left of the $2 toll bridge heading into Newport. It's like a station of some sort on a man made island. I often go there to catch door mat size flounder. I went last night to see if flounders are in and got side tracked when squids were hitting. I had left a a pole with sinker and a squid on as bait and got a striper by accident. Small one though, maybe she'll be legal in a few years. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
Squid report 5/6
I was there from 7am to 1:30pm
Small rush of squid around 8am started on the bridge then went to the park. Rush lasted 15 mins
Second rush came at 12:30pm started on the bridge again, then the squid made it's way to the park. The bridge rush lasted about 15mins and the park lasted 10mins.
Almost every person had about 6-12 squids.
With all that time I only managed TWO squids....I must be doing something wrong.
Time I left there was about 25-30 people on bridge and 10 near the park.

Calamari!
Herd reports of 5:00am squid but I just left the Causeway and they were bangging them as I left.. This was at 2:00pm today.
This is the first time I seen them in full Spring style.
So whoever said 2nd day after the New Moon was right.
Oh a little warning, it was real slow until 2:00
Good fishing <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Mr. Fluke Prodigy, looks like you might have timed it just right to go down there tonight. I'm tempted to pull an all nighter and head down.

imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... just copy the people next to you... check out the jig setup (colors, numbers, etc.) that they're using, how often they're jigging up and down, and you should be on your way.
btw... it is important to use a good reel that doesn't have a kick back... it sucks to snag a big squid and have the reel kick back and the squid falls off your jig...

I had mentioned the new moon in my post, titled; I Found em'!
They usually run "thick" around the new moon. However, up until now, it appears to have been slow everywhere. Usually, there's a night of heavy action someplace, and no one has reported anything!
The guys that I work with, that fish commercially, are reporting Herring, little to no squid, and the same for Mackerel.
I hope things improve soon!

does the lack of fishing updates mean that everyone is out fishing today?

man, i just wrote to charlie moore. i hope he gets back to me. we should try to get him to do a fishing show on squidding. that would be a blast to wake up on sunday morning and see some squidding action! i'm tired of all these freshwater bass fishing shows and striper shows. we need some variety... squidding, flounder, scup, tautogs, etc.

I was up on the bridge tonight and only got two myself. It was pretty slow from what I saw around. We did see a bunch of blues and schoolies maurading the bait ball under our 1000 watts of light. It was pretty cool.

"May 6th
Capt. Paul just came in and said the local squid fishing exploded last night. He was out in his own boat and reported that a slow pick turned into a non stop red hot bail job just before 10pm. He and his fellow anglers filled several large pails in no time. The Frances Fleet is sqid fishing by reservation Thurs Fri Sat and Sun nights at 7pm. Call the office to book a spot and get squidding!"
Lets hope tonight's the night for us folks on the bridges, docks, & piers!
