Newport, Ri - 2008 Squid Season
I am primed for some Squid fishing this friday.
I went to GI today from 10 till 2 only thing there was lots of rain and plenty of parking, no squid!
nice meeting you today eatfish. i'm heading up friday after work. you gonna be around?
Good to meet you as well. I'll probably fish on Fri, but I'll go to Jamestown and stay away from the crowds. I've got a generator in the work truck, so I can set up anywhere
Didn't get out tonight... but I'll be on the wall tomorrow night for sure.

I'm be the one with the green underwater light, see you all then.
Hi

I was on the bridge from 7:30pm til 11PM on Monday......about 8 squid caught around 8:30PM....that's it for the night. It was raining but fortunately with south wind.

Tried 2 hrs from 9 til 11am on Tue but got skunked. From my experience, it was pretty weird...normally large males come first and females follow..all the squid I caught were females. Usually, when I catch females, I get tons of squid....

Anyway, I met a very nice gentleman on the bridge who works the city of Newport. He told me that he gave garbage bags to people to clean up the bridge. It is very nice!

Oh, it was a long drive from NJ to NPT, RI....
I was looking into buying a lantern, I decided to go on ebay and check things out and I came across this.

Does anyone have one of these and does it work?
I will be at the GI wall on thursday at 6PM, regardless rain, cyclone, Gunshot, War .... whatever..... i will be there with my generator.

Travis, don't forget bring your friend with you <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Tatonka, You have to meet this girl

Fish on everyone

<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> She's my squiddin buddy, she is hooked, all it took was one trip last year. I don't know if we'll be there Fri or Saturday. I want to get out to Stellwagon Bank for some cod and haddock, but the easterlies have sucked the past few weekends. Still haven't made an offshore trip yet this spring.

LOL @ 80 day warranty. I wonder how well that thing works. Seeings how it's coming from china and it's dirt cheap, you gotta question the quality. That and anything w/ an 80 day warranty can't be all that good.

there was one guy who previously bought the item and said the light was not very bright. have a look at the feedback. otherwise it seems to be ok.

Ikakichi,

It was very nice meeting you as well. Hopefully, you can make it back to Newport once the squid arrive in earnest! I made it to my car just in time before the heavy rain...I'm surprised you stayed out there! Hope you enjoyed your stay in Newport and I hope your beautiful wife did not spend all your money shopping in town!!!

I somehow had a feeling it was you handing out trash bags. Thumbsup!

Just a reminder to all that fish the Goat Island Causeway: Parking meters and sticker parking go into effect tomorrow May 1st. The traffic aides will be out in force so don't forget your quarters for the meters. Also, be watchful for Sticker Only parking on Washington St and the side streets in the area. Play it safe and park in the municipal parking lot in the Gateway Center. It's a little bit of a walk but is sure beats a parking ticket/towing charge!

Hopefully, the extra trashcans and porta-potties will be installed by tomorrow as well. Please make use of these conveniences and keep the area clean. Let's all do our part to guarantee continued access to this awesome squidding location!

I hope to meet fellow squidfish.net users in the coming weeks! I'll be the fat white guy with the bad dropper loops!

Happy squidding!

This could be a problem then. People might confuse the two of us <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> Do you happen to know if the parking lot w/ the gate that opens when you enter but it always UP when you leave, is sticker parking. It's the lot right before the bridge and there's a huge building behind it. I don't know what the building is but we've always parked there and never had a problem

Thats the lot everyone is talking about and you don't need a sticker. You will have to pay if you park there during the day, but the attendant leaves at night I think around 10?

We generally show up around 7pm and I don't recall ever seeing an attendant there. Just wanted to make sure that lot is ok to park in b/c last thing I need is a ticket or a tow. It's a long walk from Newport to central CT <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

Yeah. Sorta a hidden gem. Should keep this on the down-low so they dont end up taking it away or charging for it. I've been parking there for the past 4 years.
Is anyone from CT planning on heading up to GI this saturday? My brother was supposed to go but him and his buddy started their own lure building co. so now he has to skip the squid run to fill orders which means I'm left solo. I'd rather not spend all the money on gas, not to mention make that trip by myself so if any of the ct members wanna carpool , please let me know asap

I finally left without an empty bucket last night. I only wish the one squid I caught had some company in there. haha, oh well. I was down from around 8:30-11:30 and saw around 15 squid pulled. Not too many people down there. It was mighty cold. I'll be back Friday night. Hope to see some of you there. I'm sure I will -Jared

Isn't that street-meter only need to be fed until 9pm, then it is free until next morning?
