Dang seals! what can we do. - The Squiding Phenom - 02-01-2011 Hello all, been a few years since i stopped in lol been busy and stuff. Were really having a big problem with seals in the kitsap county area! last month i did good and caught just over two hundred and fifty pounds of squid (not seals) Most of the squid were caught just after dark before the seals came in. Now the seals are coming early and i am just catching a couple pounds a night. Every time the somebody catches a few squid the seal comes right there and chases the squid off. Getting really frustrated! the younger seals seem to be the biggest problem. The older seals show up for about an hour then leave but the younger ones are there all night and rocks are not working. Can you get a hydrophone with orca sounds anywhere? Any other ideas? Dang seals! what can we do. - Jaeger - 02-01-2011 Sounds like coyotes of the sea. Make friends with the local tribe and have them kill all the seals they can. Dang seals! what can we do. - tfish0788 - 03-01-2011 i heard there was some transient orcas in edmonds a few weeks back munchin on seals. probably scared em all to the kitsap side of the water. i know a coupple of guys who were out kayaking yesterday and the seals were really bold coming right up to them and everything. from the beach they left from i could count several groups of seals, about 15 in total with the unaided eye not far from Kingston. it no doubt is a contributing factor the the abrupt decline in my catch numbers. Dang seals! what can we do. - The Squiding Phenom - 03-01-2011 I went to the reservation yesterday and bought some little firecrackers that sink. Had a sea lion come right up to the dock tonight. He didnt like the noise and it was the last we saw of him. They seem to work pretty good and dont wake up the neighbors either. So maybe thats the route to go. They come in packs of 100 and are only two bucks. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wh' /> Dang seals! what can we do. - bufford - 03-01-2011 [quote name='tfish0788' timestamp='1294040788' post='21294'] i heard there was some transient orcas in edmonds a few weeks back munchin on seals. probably scared em all to the kitsap side of the water. i know a coupple of guys who were out kayaking yesterday and the seals were really bold coming right up to them and everything. from the beach they left from i could count several groups of seals, about 15 in total with the unaided eye not far from Kingston. it no doubt is a contributing factor the the abrupt decline in my catch numbers. I also found where to download transient orca sounds (the seal eating ones) i am going to defineyly try this LOL, serious i am. I plan on using my mp3 player but i need some technical assistance with the setup. I am so done with these dang seals. Cute my arse! we need to hold a party for the eskimos to come down and show us what real clubbing is all about. http://www.esunpride.com/product.htm Dang seals! what can we do. - glen - 05-01-2011 I have never seen anyone try and scare off seals with a killer whale recording!! But it sounds like it is worth a shot. Let us know how it goes!! You could be on the front page of the newspapers if it works! Cheers, Glen Dang seals! what can we do. - The Squiding Phenom - 27-01-2011 ya i might be on the front page for interfering with orcas too. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/1407561139_0178cfe6ea_o.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':pirate:' /> Dang seals! what can we do. - amayuram - 09-12-2011 Squiding Phenom. Did this ever work? Dang seals! what can we do. - The Squiding Phenom - 04-01-2012 I didnt try it lol i bought a 100 mw green laser instead. It works pretty well. so many sea lions now too so orca sounds still on the table. Dang seals! what can we do. - ducksoup - 01-05-2015 Some of the salmon fishing guys I've talked to say they're using paint ball guns. Crank up the pressure and those things will sting! No permanent injury to the seals so I've been told it's okay to use them. More powerful and a heck of a lot more accurate then a slingshot.
