Squid fishing during daytime - thumps727 - 16-04-2011

has anyone fished for squid while fluke fishing or striper fishing during the day? I know we do most of our squid fishing late evening thru early morning, but while fluke fishing last year, i saw some and wondered whether i should've brought my gear.

You'll catch squid at all hours of the day. More dependent on tide moon phase etc

Thanks INKA I'm new to this. The only time I tried squidding is at night while tuna fishing. When I saw them while fluke fishing here in Massachusetts during the day it surprised me. Guess I should bring the jigs with me just in case next time.

Try gold foil bellied jigs with orange skin for clear sky clear water and red foil dark olive backs for most else as a very general rule. Yamashita jigs are good, yozuri, harimitsu etc are good also.

I am new to this forum s first of all hi everyone <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I found that during the day i catch most squids on green coloured jigs and also on blue with black dots from Yamashita (Naory series). Orange, pink and red during the sunset.

Inka i'm still sorting out my when and where for squid, never done it before, read where you said tide and moon phase are important.

I'm assuming top or bottom of the tide is the go .

What phase of the moon are you recommending.

Thanks

Squids can be caught at practically anytime of the day. Be it day or night, high tide or low tide. We go squid fishing anytime of the day without looking at tides. Its kind of funny at times because we usually hear about squids in deeper waters. But my personal experience is that I had caught 1+kg Squids in less than 0.5m of water depth.

Initially when I started eging (squid fishing), anglers used to mock at me for trying to fish for squids during the day, but when I started pulling squids out of the water, they have nothing else to say.

With regards to colours, there isn't a specific colour to use at a specific time. But as a general rule when they are lazy and cautious, red belly works best. When they are in a frenzy, Pink/Orange with Rainbow Belly works well. During sun rise and sun set. Golden belly works well.

The use of Natural Awabi Flashing Sheets helps in improving catch rates too,
