G-Day fellas how are we all - Craig O - 14-10-2013 Guys gals and the uncertain   I have been looking at sites here in Western Australia and stumbled across this one. Can any of you guys talk me through any new release Squid Fishing equipment that we may not of seen here yet ? Reason being is that over here we have come across Yamashita lures Unlike the old spend 10 bucks get a second set free These puppies are $22 au for each one and they really work well on Squid Me and my mates have had a great success rate using these type style lures But unfortunately want to try and get the Big ones" We have nothing over here like the Humbolt squid ours vary in sizes from 150 mm to around 340mm And if there anything like the ones you get They spray ink over everything   Any tips on slowing that side of things down would be a bonus too   All good over here will wait for a response Cheers guys Gals and in-betweens :au: G-Day fellas how are we all - drift squid - 19-10-2013 theres way of controlling the squid from inking you n everything.   while its water itll ink in the water, n thats fine but u dont hold ur rod in front of you u point it left or right(the squid allways points to the tip of the rod)   now lift its head only out of the water wait a few secs it will squirt once it squirts once try not to let it reload (it will reload from where it shoots out from)   now heres the important bit, lift it of the water gently to allways maintain pressure keep the rod bent dont lift up n down to lose the bend in the rod. by doing this i can control the squid from inking i can pretty much hold it there for a hour if i wanted too and it will not ink once. as soon as i place it on the ground (pointing away from u n ur gear) it will ink straight away.after that its safe to handle as it cant reload.   u can grab the line b4 u drop it but it starts to get risky, u increase ur chace of inking by doing this.   hope this helps. Just need more practise at it i suppose  What i find on my boat ( tinney is thats its ok to lean over and crab it by the neck region and they basically squirt away (except for the odd one ) Its when i am in friends boats that have a hull depth to deep to lean over to get them it creates the issue as you suggested they sometimes hold that last squirt until they hit the bucket Thats when it goes pear shaped as most guys with $30.000 dollar boats dont want a bar of the ink going over the carpets e.t.c. I heard that a coke bottle top cut in half slides down over the jig and difusses this issue Might give that one a shot eh   Being in Sydney are you guys seasonal with Squid or are you pretty much all year round as we are here ? Also if ya ever turn up in WA There is places down at Albany that Squid get to around 500mm to a meter if your really lucky I was down that way ( 4 hours south of Perth ) a year or so ago have a beer with a mate talking Squid He said he normally gets 1 or 2 for a good feed ?????? I said we up here a getting 20 to 30 and thats a good feed ???? Once he had told me the size and showed me a couple of flicks it was evedent we were disussing totally different fish sizes   Apparently they use afoil and a range of sparkly treats over 3 to 4 meters of line to get the attraction of these weapons   cheers bud Thanks for the heads up       G-Day fellas how are we all - drift squid - 24-10-2013 ohh i forgot too mention that the technique i told you doesnt seem to work that well with really small squid or arrow squid, they just dont have enuff weight to hold their ink.   we get squid all year round, but come late dec, jan & feb the calamari are too small and i lose a little interest, as i dont see the point in catching 30+ squid in one session that struggle to measure 15cm, well that and i hate getting sunburned.   NO Shit! 50cm to 1m?? i knew east coast tasmania, melbourne and bermagui held some large squid upto 60cm (give or take 5cm) but pushing a metre?? where do i sign up? in the last couple of years they found 2 dead ones floating around at sea, the one of jervis bay had a 2m hood, and the second one was a few kms out from port hacking n it was around the 1.5m mark and apprently theres a old/bloke in a tinnie that fishs off palm beach n managed a 9kg squid jan this year or last yr, my mate seen the foto sez its huge,, i havent, so to me its still just a rumour. but there would be a few monsters lurking around aus but no one really fishs for em, so u cant say they dont exist.   im really intrested now in this squid,place and method there useing in catching these monsters. are they southern calamari or a different species? when u say 4m of line are they long lining n hope for the best type of thing? any idea on water depth?i know it would be hard but id love to see a pic if you could get one. i might have to organise a trip to wa.   thanx craigo,
