Using a sharp pointed knife cut around the backbone from the top only just cutting the skin. Put your fingers under the backbone and seperate it from the cuttly. You should at this stage not broken into the main body of the cuttly. Again just cut shallow around the flesh section and it will come away without busting the gut bag and importantly the ink bag, now over a bucket or over the side of the boat cut the guts away from behind the head and discard the guts. Finished, Its not easy but with practise you can keep the job clean. Top bait and top eating. Regards John cuttlefish cleaning - Guest - 30-06-2004 my father and i just speared 4 whoppers and the best way to clean them is to remove the head/ tenticles by sliding your hand in the bonnet, then cut off soft under-belly. pick a sandy spot on the beach then use the sand to rub and pull off the skin sooo easy regards paul cuttlefish cleaning - glen - 30-06-2004 thanks for the tip paul! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> cheers, glen cuttlefish cleaning - Mr_Willy - 01-07-2004 ITS BLOODY HARD - I THROW THEM BACK - EASIER TO DO - have cleaned them but find its easier to just catch squid and put the cuttlies back, or use them as bait! |
