Giant Humboldt Squid - Jazman - 07-10-2003

Hi all

I have been doing some internet searches for squid, and I came across some interesting info on giant Humboldt Squid. They can grow to 6 feet long, and guys regularly catch them to 4 feet! Baja is well known for them.

Try looking at:

Giant Humboldt Squid - Guest - 16-02-2004

I caught some of these squid off of Bahia de Los Angeles in the Sea of Cortez in Easter week 2002. Very impressive, and agressive, fish with beaks the size of the largest macaw, and large suction cups with small teeth in them! I'm sure a biologist would laugh at my description, but those cups drew blood on the arm of my fishing guide and I looked at them carefully - there was a circle of sharp teeth inside all of the large cups.

Attached is a photo of a squid my little girl caught. Big critter.

hi bruno,

no photo! perhaps the image size was too large? Try shrinking the file size down by resizing the image.

Cheers,

Glen :geek

glen, is there any chance you could make the limit 300kb?

only a suggestion, feel free to knock it back.. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

200 should be heaps! the problem is no one knows how to shrink photos! its really easy people! over a dial up internet connection, a 300k is way too big to view comfortably.

maybe what i will do is put some instructions somewhere to explain to people how to shrink photos.

ideally the forum would automatically shrink the photo for people. this might be available in the future.

Giant Humboldt Squid - adam - 17-02-2004

so how do you shrink photos?

i suppose i could use photoshop or something but i cant be stuffed installing it <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> .

A lot of those basic image viewing programs can resize images. you don't need photoshop. if you visit a website like tucows.com i am sure there will be heaps of free programs you can download.

There are two main ways of shrinking a photo:

1) You change its size (i.e. width and height are reduced)

2) You reduce the resolution (e.g. you reduce the image quality of a jpeg).

I usually try to make photos in the photo gallery about 500 pixels wide. The height varies of course depending on the orginal dimensions.

Cheers, Glen
