Dear all,
I need help on the west coast to know what squid spots are available to me.
I have bought squid jig but not yet fished.
I live in San Francisco.

They are catching the giant Humbolt squid north of the Cordell Banks off small boats & sportfishing charter boats out of Bodega Bay- aproximately 25 miles out in 400' of water. There are reports of squid spotted west of Half Moon bay closer into shore. I'm sure boats will be fishing there soon.

The numbers are roughly 05 & 25.
A couple boats are going out of Half Moon Bay on February 8, to see if we can find some further down the coast. Our success may be tracked on www.coastsidefishingclub.com

thanks for that info. I checked out your club site and its very informative. there are plenty of fishing reports in the forums area.
we recently setup a "giant squid" sub-forum to cater for the growing interest in humboldt squid and other large squid species. you might like to check it out.

Has anyone heard of giant humboldt squid turning up in Californian waters this year?

Sounds like the giant squid are ramping up in and around the San Francisco area:

On Saturday, the New Salmon Queen finished with 180 giant squid to 50 pounds for its 19 anglers aboard, fishing up around Cordell Banks. The average squid was reported at about 40 pounds. Squid Jigs were the ticket, and most of the action was about 20 feet under the boat.

If you're referring to Humboldt squid, they are catching them in the Monterey canyon. Check out the Bayside marine website for info.
