Trout fishing in New Zealand - glen - 08-02-2004

Hi everyone,

Here is a photo from my recent trip to New Zealand <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nz.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' />

This was the biggest brown trout I have ever caught! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/zorro.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' />

Check it out!

Later, Glen

wow nice brown, wat method did you use to catch it? i.e. tackle lures, etc.

thanks, pj

this was captured while fly fishing.

the fish was sighted from some distance away and a small nymph (which is a type of fly that imitates an aquatic insect) was cast in front of it and the fish happily came up and grabbed the fly <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

too easy! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

ive always wanted to learn to fly fish, but i dont think i would be able to go much, living in melbourne.

is it hard to learn?

pj

Trout fishing in New Zealand - glen - 13-02-2006

its not that hard to learn fly fishing but i agree that melbourne is not that great.

though if you have access to a boat you could chase australian salmon on fly...that would be fun!

also you can catch big european carp on fly in some places.

Trout fishing in New Zealand - peejaypee - 13-02-2006

i know, its a bummer eh? speaking of carp, do you know any parks around the melbourne area that have carp in them, i like catching them for fun, besides its doing the council a favour! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

thanks again,

pj

the best areas for carp are in the west. i believe Lake Modewarre has huge carp but i have never tried for them. there are also carp in the National Water Sports Centre. The address is -

Riverend Rd

Bangholme

VIC, 3175

Australia

Ph: (03) 9772 1001

see attached map. you can fish anywhere on the eastern side of the mornington freeway...its quite a large waterway.

ok thanks glen, ive past that place many times before but never thought to fish there. lol it sounds kidna sad, that im trying to catch carp but anyways

thanks,

pj

thats a top looking trout there mate. did you have any luck on lures?

Trout fishing in New Zealand - glen - 04-04-2006

lure fishing is not that great over there....the fish tend to be very spooky and they will run and hide when presented with a clunky lure (a lot of the time).

small flies and light line are much more effective
