I always use rods, or handlines in a boat..... poles vs rod - Guest - 10-08-2004 first time squid fishing this weekend, i was wondering what wight rods you would need? ive got a vast veriety from ultra light bream gear to stong surf gear for gummies. what size rids and what lines size to use? poles vs rod - Jazman - 10-08-2004 For casting prawn style jigs from piers I like a light, long rod paired with a threadline with 6-10lb mono. For baited jigs a heavier outfit, 10-12 lb mono. Longer rods help absorb the 'pumping' of hooked squid, and also help lifting up on high piers! Jaz poles vs rod - Mr_Willy - 10-08-2004 All my rods are done in 15lb mono - i just use my river rods - no really specialised rods..........Sometimes bring out my 10ft light surf rod for extra casting distance when using tommies! poles vs rod - RX3-BOi - 10-08-2004 mr willy come down to melb every old ###### has a squid pole. thats how they got there nick name"######". i use a rod find these poles to hard to use as rods are easier poles vs rod - Guest - 10-08-2004 hehe yea gotta love the ###### cool sounds like im all ready up for my first squid trip.. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ![]() hrrmm, where to go, i like in the inner west willing to travel anywhere west all the way to lorn.. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ![]() poles vs rod - MrEs - 10-08-2004 ahh thats better, i actually confirmed my registration hehe poles vs rod - RX3-BOi - 11-08-2004 welcome to the forums dude poles vs rod - glen - 11-08-2004 hey guys, please don't use this term "######" because people may find it offensive. thanks guys <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ![]() cheers, glen poles vs rod - aok47 - 11-08-2004 Mr Es, "westerly" landbased locations that spring to mind immediately would have to be Queenscliff and Lorne piers.
