Never used that style of jig, they look more like the ones the commercial boats (with lights etc) use offshore. No reason why they wouldn't work inshore, I'd try a few on a line at once.

I've found quite a few of those jigs washed up on ocean beaches in victoria, none that glow though!

Anyone else used this sort of jig? At first glance they don't appear as lifelike as the prawn jigs, but who knows?

Have used some like that that dont glow, and have caught squid, but that day the squid were everywhere - dont know if they'll work, but id give them a go for sure!!

At cape jervis - dont fish back towards shore - its very shallow and you'll get snagged - cast at the breakwater, or off the end...........

how would u recommend i hook up mutiple jigs so the line doesnt get tangled? they have loops at both ends and i bwelieve there more like the jigs that boats use.... they are also quite large 8 1/2 inches....... cant wait to try them out...... woohoo ten days off after tomorrow cant wait to go fishing and not worry about alarm clocks

Paulus - just do it the way you would hooks - i would tie a couple of swivels on my line and just connect the jags to them............

<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':au:' /> yeah thats what i was thinking... a double header squid, that would b sweet...... anyone ever had a double header of squid? im not sure how common multiplw jags are in recreational fishing, so it would b good to hear ur squidding feats....... cheers pauls...

Ive seen a double header squid taken at second valley - this dude was dipping his jag in pilchard oil and casting them out and letting them sit, then winding them in - caught 2-3 double headers...........

I then tried it at Beachport the first time we were there, and i managed to hook one, and have another attack the other jag, but it didnt hook up......

Those type of jigs are VERY popular in the United States. They are the Commercial type of jigs. Most of the people catching squid in the US like to use the jigs that glow, as working in the dark water at night really draw in the squid. Most people here use 3 or 4 jigs at a time spaced about 18" apart. Some tie them in line so that you attach a line to top and bottom of each one. I like to tie a snap swivel every 18" and just clip in on the top, so when you jig it up and down it flops a little, this seems to work best. It's not uncommon here to get 4 - 5 squid on at one time this way.

The squid are often at different depths, usually start out by dropping your line slowly to the bottom, then reel up a bit. Jerk your line up about 2 feet and slowly lower, as the squid grab the lure generally as it's dropping. If you feel a slight slack on your line as it drops, set the hook, as it's likely a squid that grabbed on. If it's not working well fishing off the bottom, reel up a bit and keep trying at different depths. At night sometimes they will be only a couple feet down from the surface.
