Just had a thought, does the squid go off when it rains or do they get more excited like regular fish do and would they come up to the surface?

hey guys

In general I have found that rain dosent affect squid, I have found that squid will bite duriung a heavy down pour

HOWEVER I have found that they do slow down during the rain period but the bites increase after the rain has eased or stopped, I have caught some of my best bags during a storm, dont ever be put of fishing for squid just because its raining

it was spitting a few times when i went down to second valley, been having some good luck casting off the rocks towards cape jervis using a 3.0-3.5 squid jag even in the rain i got a big mutha that bent my rod hard <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> but it wasnt that heavy and only in short periods. i could not say if it had been rainng for a couple of hours what the action would b like

I agree with supersquid. Some of the best bags of squid have been caught during storms. I have heard from some "old timers" that the squid aren't as skiddish when it is raining.

Rain itself doesnt affect squidding, however we must consider what else come with rain - wind, low visibility due to low light and choppy conditions(most of the time). If its calm then it shouldnt affect it one bit. In storms I wouldnt fish unless I wanted to provide the local squid population with freshly fried human flesh.
