What are some methods to use for squiding at night near bridges etc? Does the normal prawn style jig work the same as in the daytime? Thanks <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Welcome Roy, <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

A Prawn style jig is not very effective during night time because squid cannot see at night but if you use a baited jig with whiting or pilchard etc, the squid are attracted to these because they can smell the fish, but can't smell the artificial jig! I hope that answers your question!

hi roy,

is the bridge where you are fishing well lit with artificial lights? if so, then prawn jigs will work.

welcome aboard,

cheers, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I will argue with that point just a bit. We generally like to use glow in the dark squid jigs, and the squid can quite easily see those, day or night. Squid have quite good eye sight, as well.

I think the glow in the dark jigs work better, but aren't required.

Do the ones that you have been using glow??

Squiding At Night - FISHY - 26-10-2004

 sorry i totally forgot about glow in the dark jigs i have heard of them but never seen then!!

ROY the pier at flinders are pretty lit up so i guess you won't have a problem <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

REALLY??? I have always considered the glow in the dark jigs to be standard. That is mostly what I sell, as most people don't have interest in ones that don't glow in the dark. So most of the ones in shops there don't glow?

at night time i have a rig set up with a jag on the end, and a fixed float about 50cm up the line

most people just leave them sitting in the water with a float but i have had nothing but good luck slowly reeling it in witht he float attached!

the squids love it

Squiding At Night - Guest - 29-12-2004

I usually use both of type...and they worked.

But if the water was not quite clear the don't glow in the dark worked well especially at night

did I hear you say Squid at night? near bridges?

the big one is over 80cm tube and the rest slightly smaller around 60Cm. all caught on size2 jigs and smaller <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Just drop by to ask a question. Are Squid Jigs of Size 3.0 too big to be used on Kelongs ?

I usually uses Size 2.5 but have caught many using Size 3.0 as well.

However, my dad said that it's too big. what do you ppl think ?

Squiding At Night - davidbloop - 08-03-2009

I would say you'd have more success on a smaller jig but the 3.0 should be fine.
