New Squid Fisherman - Guest - 08-02-2005

Hi all,

Just experienced my first squid fishing expedition and it was awesome.

We launched out of Bodega Bay and fished the Cordell Banks (sp?) and ran ourselves ragged pulling in 20 to 30 pound squid. My arms hurt! If you're near the area look up the New Sea Angler captained by Rick Powers. Great boat and a great Captain, and not just for squid. The bite is on!

Anyway, I'm not normally the biggest seafood fan (I mostly love the sport) and I'm also capable of burning water around the kitchen, so I wonder if any of you can tell me a couple of (really) idiot proof recipes for my fifty pounds of inch-thick squid steak.

Thanks in advance,

-Dan

New Squid Fisherman - Fried Walleye - 08-02-2005

Hello,

Glen posted a link for about a million squid recipes. I looked at some of them, and they sound great <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> .

I would try ternderizing some of the steaks, and soaking them in olive oil seasoned with your favorite seasonings (minced garlic, onions, parsley, black pepper, red pepper, kosher salt; just to name what I use), and then barbequing them lightly. The olive oil will drip and smoke, giving the squid a nice flavor.

This is also a great recipe for tuna steaks, beef steak, pork chops, and a ton of other grilled meats! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer_mug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Also slice your squid into thin strips and make salt and pepper squid. 1 tablespoon kosher salt, 1 tbsp black pepper, 1 tbsp chili powder, 4 tbsp flour. Place in a ziploc bag, and shake with the squid. FRY AND EAT!

Let me know how these turn out!

Enjoy.

Hi Dan,

Just adding to what Chris has said, there was a recipe specifically for jumbo squid in the following article in the UNION-TRIBUNE -

You need to scroll down the page a fair way. The recipe is in a box on the right of the screen.

Let us know how you go,

Cheers, Glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />
