Puget Sound, Wa (2007 Season) - glen - 09-01-2007 Quote:Squid jigging has been sporadic all season in most areas of Puget Sound, but fair reports are coming off and on from docks in Tacoma, Steilacoom, Anderson Island, Bremerton, Des Moines, Elliott Bay and Edmonds. "It's not a slam-dunk kind of thing, but you'll have a fair shot at it," said Jerry Beppu at Linc's Tackle in Seattle. I am also new to this. I was at Des Moines last week, saw a few small ones but did not catch any. I have heard there are some being caught at Redondo. There doesn't seem to be many people trying for squid right now, most people I have talked to wait until late fall. Good luck. Puget Sound, Wa (2007 Season) - squidjigdotcom - 07-08-2007 Hi, There have been fair numbers of squid since 1st of July. On the East side of Puget Sound, the best area has been Redondo. I haven't heard too much in the Seattle or Des Moines area. On the West side of Puget Sound, Brownsville, Bremerton Passenger Ferry Dock, and Waterman Pier near Port Orchard has been producing well. I have heard many people say that they do better during the daylight hours for summer squid. There are a couple of reasons there aren't as many people that fish for squid during the summer. 1. They don't know they are there, as it has predominantly been a Fall/Winter fishery. 2. Many people are after salmon or other species. 3. Summer squid tend to be very small, often 3-4 inches total length. For summer squid, I recommend the smallest of jigs. Ideally about 1 inch long. Hope that helps a little.. Jon[/quote] Hey Jon, Do know if Edmonds dock is any good right now? I was out a month or so ago and a couple guys said they were catching a few, but not much. Thanks, Viet Puget Sound, Wa (2007 Season) - seattleelvis - 26-09-2007 I live in Seattle and am new to squid jigging. Three questions: 1. Where in the Seattle area would you recommend starting out? 2. Are there squid in Seattle area waters this time of year? 3. If the answer to the second question is yes, is there a time of day (or night) that is generally best to try? Thanks for the advice! Look around, you'll find tons of info for squid fishing puget sound. Squig Puget Sound, Wa (2007 Season) - squidjigdotcom - 27-09-2007 Yes, there are squid around NOW!! Best place I have been hearing about recently is at the Redondo pier. Squid have been fairly small 4" - 5" total length. The smallest jigs have been working the best. I stopped down there around midnight on Sept 24th, there were about 8 guys down there, one with a pretty good sized bucket of squid (guessing he was there the longest). Generally anything after dark is best, but people do well during the daytime hours as well. Have also heard that Seattle has been getting squid, but didn't hear any specific locations that were hot. Jon Puget Sound, Wa (2007 Season) - glen - 29-09-2007 Quote:In other fishing news, squid fishing has improved, with some nighttime jiggers catching limits (10 pounds) recently at the Redondo fishing pier, reports Jerry Beppu at Linc's Tackle in Seattle. The Seacrest and Terminal 86 piers on Elliott Bay are also producing some squid. ... Puget Sound, Wa (2007 Season) - squidjigdotcom - 04-10-2007 I haven't heard anything up in Edmonds yet. Always worth a try though!!!! All the reports that I have heard so far is that they are small squid that are being caught, so you will want to use the smallest of jigs if you want to catch them. Jon |
