Gaffs For Squid - davec84 - 10-04-2007 Hi guys just browsing on youtube when i came across a few clips on squid jigging. They use a gaff to get the squids, but ive never seen it before. its just a telescope handle with a treble hook?(the ones on the tails of squid jigs) on the end instead of a hook. Ive put the link below. Just wondering knows where to get a hold of these? im located in sydney. cheers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BrCjadK04w...ated&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhe20027g5o...ated&search= the yellow one heres sexy. its called the auto king gaff kotsugi 5.0 again if anyone knows where to order them please tell. cheers Gaffs For Squid - Nautilusly - 11-04-2007 these gaffs look good! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> but can tells that these aint gonna be cheap <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> havent seen them before, but might be easy to make 1 using an old telescopic rod or a blank? would have to get some very big and sharp hooks through! the way of jigging by that girl was funny, seems like she was using a flash dancer jig Gaffs For Squid - flounderpirate - 11-04-2007 They would be handy if you were a way above the water. Interesting action that girl had huh? How cheesy was that yellow king gaff ad? Trust the Japs...hahaha Gaffs For Squid - Steeny - 11-04-2007 when we were hunting the big squid in victor harbour, we always used a crab net (one of the drop style ones with two rings) to bring them up to the high piers. much like here, you need a second person, but simply having the net in the water at the bottom of the pier, you can simply lift it up under the squid with no chance of loosing it, or damaging it with lots of little holes. Gaffs For Squid - mrzed - 12-04-2007 The girl is Reiko Ijima. She's sponsered by Shimano and Yamaria. The egi she's using could be Egi-oo Q because she's wearing a Maria cap. The comentry sounds like she's testing the egi. As for the gafs, Evergreen Corp has a new one out this year that sells for 51,000 yen. A bit over AU$500 <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> Gaffs For Squid - Nautilusly - 12-04-2007
The girl is Reiko Ijima. They use a live Jack (aji) and when the squid locks on, they draw it closer to the shore, hook the 'yaen' on to the line and send it down. There is a stopper just above the bait and when it goes past the stopper, slacken the line to hook the squid. You can find details on this blog, although only Japanese... Scroll down and you can find some diagrams for how to rig. And I'm sure you can get cheaper auto-gaffs too. Evergreen is not the cheapest brand around. Gaffs For Squid - glen - 16-04-2007 we had another topic on squid gaff's here: http://www.squidfish.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=283 <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> Gaffs For Squid - Jazman - 17-04-2007 Thanks for posting those videos, very interesting. The action the girl was using with that orange jig, where it was darting from side to side, is called 'walk the dog', it's a common retrieve used with normal surface lures (eg. not squid jigs) like poppers and pencil baits. It is apparently quite hard to do. Gaffs For Squid - landshark - 21-04-2007 i went to the fishing shop today. they had a Tiga 5m telescopic squid gaff for about 10,000yen so around $100, but it was 50% off. they also had another brand for about 11,000yen not on sale. im sure they are not as good as the one egized mentioned,my guess is they r probably last seasons stock, but just thought i would let you know. Gaffs For Squid - sky - 22-08-2007 anyone here whois in Japan able to help out with ordering the telescopic gaff?am looking to purchase one soon..shipping and payment can be arranged=) |
