Default Email Settings Changed - glen - 23-09-2007 Hi everyone, I made a change today to Squidfish Forum email settings. What Changed? From now on, if you start a topic or reply to a topic you will automatically be 'subscribed' to the topic and you will receive an email notification when someone else responds to that topic. Why the Change? The main reason I decided to make the change was to encourage new members to stick around and participate in the forum. It is often the case that a new member will ask a question or two and then not return. I believe that is partly because they forgot they asked the question in the first place or they didn't know how to come back to the site. The automatic emails will fix that problem. Hopefully the end result will be a bigger, better, busier online squid fishing community! I appreciate that this change may annoy some existing members and the automatic emails might be viewed as being SPAM. But please note that it is only the 'default' setting that I have changed. Members are free to change this setting at any time. See instructions below. Can I change the email settings? Yes of course. Here are the instructions for either turning the email notifications OFF or reducing their frequency: 1) Login to your account (if you are not already logged in) 2) Click on "My Controls" (top right of screen) and then clock on "Email Settings" (on the left side menu). 3) Then you have TWO CHOICES: OPTION 1 - Untick the box - "Enable 'Email Notification' by default?". Then you will be back to how things were before. OPTION 2 - To reduce the frequency of email updates, use the drop down menu and select your preferred setting (e.g. you might prefer "Weekly" Updates rather than "Immediate" updates). ******************* If you have any questions feel free to post them here. If you want to change the settings back to how they were before, but you are unsure how to go about it, then I am happy to make the changes for you. Just mention it here and I will make whatever changes you like. I have my own board that I'm trying to do this exact same thing with. How do I do this? I can't seem to find it anywhere online when I search. Thank you! Default Email Settings Changed - glen - 18-06-2008 I will send you a PM. Cheers, glen |
