When Is The UK Squid Season ? - Sucker - 13-10-2007 Hi All Could you advise when it is the season for squid in the UK?. I have seen over the last week, 2 references to mackeral being attacked by squid on the retrieve, this would imply that they are around now. Both of these occurances were down in the Hampshire/Dorset area, have there been any catches/sightings around Brighton Marina yet? Fishyrob, you seem to be the man in the know!!, but you also mention March as the time they arrive so I am not sure whether they stay around from october to March or whether they arrive in March. Any advise gratefully recieved Thanks Sucker When Is The UK Squid Season ? - fishyrob - 15-02-2008 [quote name='Sucker' post='9485' date='Oct 12 2007, 07:47 PM']Hi All Could you advise when it is the season for squid in the UK?. There are then odd ones around all year, but they definately seem to thicken up again about late October time. Also at this time, the ones that hatched in the spring are small calamaris size, which is why I think the calamris get a lot better as a bass bait! Down in Weymouth they catch squid late October/November time, so you might find it completely different where you live. Best way of knowing if squid or cuttles are around is go and float fish a live prawn, fairly close to the bottom. If your float stops in the tide, and descends very slowly, as if snagged on the bottom, you have squid/cuttles around. |
