A mate got this in the Harbour last night.I had so few squid for bait and the tailor were biting the line so he took the risk and was rewarded!

Glen, you already know the hard part of mulloway fishing....getting the fresh squid bait !. Use the head&guts on a large 7/0 or 8/0 Owner or Gamagatsu. Target the turn of the tide, during darkness esp if close to sunrise sunset,or near new &full moons. Most tidal Victorian rivers with deep holes near bridges or wharves with strong lights will have some jews, and right now is the time to target the big ones!

Great fish! very jealous! I have put in 3 nights so far this year trying for a mulloway off the surf....have hooked a few fish that I thought were jewies, that turned into massive eagle rays <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' />

Strike me lucky Chippy!

My best fishing mate is a Carpenter too !

He has never landed 1 but has lost some rippers

Poor bloke had to help me land a 25lb one a while back......I could see him slowly go green.

Sydney Mulloway 2nd May - fish'n'chippy - 02-12-2009

the time that i fish for them up here the small ones are 25lb

two "secret" nights a season you get 4 each night, with an average of 2 per night

fished 6 tides last year for 12

biggest was 52lb

fishing live baits use 5/0 hooks, i only use 8/0 (or bigger) in dead baits
