hey eagle,
Shrimp hunters a awesome, even the cheaper rip offs do ok (but not as good) the most productive jig of mine is a shrimp hunter (blue and white with pink patterns on it) i have also heard the brown ones are really good. worth splashing out on an expensive jig like that every now n then <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

yep the shrimp hunters are worth the extra bucks.
if you are chasing fussy squid like the buggers I chase you cant go past them as it is the only jig they will take.

This(Link Given Below) is exactly the same type and colour of shrimp i bought, size 2.5. Is this colour effective ?

yep that is a good jig colour as I have one the same but in size 3.0 and it works a treat , pitty you cant buy the boil colour any more as I think it is the best of the lot but the brown is suppose to be very good as well.
(here's a plug for you Richard)
Nautilusy has some jigs in the mail for me and one of them is the brown shrimp hunter so I'm busting at the seems for it to arrive and get to work on it adjusting the weight.
as well as another orange and a blue as I want to be ready for them this year with a range of colours because some days they take one colour and not the next....thats bloody squid for ya..lol

no I reduce the weight and add a counter weight to the shaft on the top set of barbs to make them sink VERY slowly and very level as well , it's what you have to do to them so that these fussy mongrels take the jigs.
put it this way ...if you cast out a jig as it comes out of the packet you may as well throw it away.
I like a sink rate of about 1 metre per 20 seconds which is Very slow and any faster will spook them and put them off.
I put up a post about how I catch them a while ago so if you can find it have a read.
you may pick up some usefull hints to try on fussy squid , we have worked on these squid for a few years now and pretty much perfected the method.
if you head up this way to brisbane I'll only be more than happy to show you how , what , when and where.
as a squid fisherman you might get a bit of a surprise from it.

' />sounds very interesting! standard shrimp hunter sinks 1 meter per 4 seconds (according to yo-zuri, i never measured), and thats slow enough for me already. Do you have problem casting your modified jig or get it to sink in a slightly windy day? Thanks alot ppl. I am so glad that i have bought a good jig.
I always like to let my Squid Jig sink down to the bottom, as it is where the Squids are, then start to reel it up slowly. However, i always get caught in "Sangkot" and lose my Squid Jig when i let it sink to the bottom. I feel that if i just let the jig sink somewhere to the middle, the chances of getting a Squid would be much slimmer. So how can i not get a "Sangkot" but catch many Squid as well ?
I am new to Squid Fishing. So hope you are able to help me. Thank you ...

bottom and snag come hand in hand, not much you can do - greater risk = greater return
if losing jigs is your main concern, perhaps you can try some half hook squid jigs? it will reduce bottom snag. Yo-zuri also have "trick hooks" on AORA and flash dancer jigs. they are more flexible than the usual hooks and will often straighten out a little bit when its snagged - just enough to free the jig. you do need to use lines that can take up some force, 6-8lb will be fine. i've had many bottom snags and have yet to lost a jig with trick hooks.
