Clifton Gardens And Surrounds, NSW - archilles - 26-02-2009

Hey all ,

I'm new to squidfish.net and boy is it a great site! Last week i tried Clifton gardens with my new jigs, caught nothing first time and 2 the second time ( after 3 hours)

Problem is i live in the Sutherland Shire and it takes me over an hour to get to Clifton gardens .

Could anyone recommend and good landbased spots on this side of the bridge i.e. not on the north ? I'm so keen i even purchased egimax hehe

I'd love a spot or spots that holds quite afew squid because i'm still an amateur and don't really know what i'm doing , so i need all the help i can get.

Because i'm landbased wharfs would be ideal - has anyone tried rosebay, watsons bay ?

I'm happy to fish nights and even very early mornings too <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> Any help would be greatly appreciated !

The site is a bit slow and very international, so there is no gaurantee that someone from that area will see. But if they do, you should be able to get some very good information. Good luck.

Hi Achilles,

There is a heap of info on the site already regarding techniques etc. If you fish with quality jigs, try a variety of retrieves (fast, slow, deep, shallow) and fish at peak times (early morning, late evening, and at night) around weed beds or rocks you are in with a great chance. If you find any piers, jetties or wharves with ink on them, then you can sure people have caught squid there.

I think that Ben (on this site) does very well at Bare Island.

I just googled a map of Sutherland Shire and it looks like there are a LOT of spots to try around Botany Bay. Why not try a couple of different spots each night until you start catching?

Bare Is & the Lillie Pillie Baths in Pt. Hacking are both good.

If you can catch squid in heavily fished areas like Clifton Gdns you must be doing something right!

Clifton Gardens And Surrounds, NSW - archilles - 12-03-2009

Thanks kingyfisher! i'm thinking bare island too - do you think the bridge would be any good ?

bridge is a heavily fished area and you might get a few very small squids (100-200gm) if you have the persistence. there isnt much there recently and i wont suggest you to go there if you want to have a productive session.

Clifton Gardens And Surrounds, NSW - archilles - 12-03-2009

so where should i go fellas ? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Clifton Gardens And Surrounds, NSW - Bent_Rod - 17-03-2009

give kurnell a go, i heard there is squid there, i went there with my family on the weekend for a picnic, it looks like squid territory, has anyone fished for squid there before?

Clifton Gardens And Surrounds, NSW - kingyfisher - 17-03-2009

I always try and avoid windy places if LB , the squid seem to be more active in the lee shore.

Water clarity is also important as squid hunt by sight.

[left] La Perouse...

Was there last week. Chilly and windy... Yet someone pull up a 3kg squid... And then another... smaller one.

Dun juz wait under the bridge for them to come, have to cast...

If interested, pm me.

Right now is not a good time to squid

The water temp has droped to 17 C

There are still Cuttlefish about

But I would wait till springtime when the water gets to 20 C everything hots up!

Despite the wind last friday i caught a good size squid within the first five minutes of fishing the bridge at bare island. But that is all i caught, it always seems to be the way - lets face it the place gets hammered! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

too true mate. there seem to be a 1 squid per day curse there <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

Clifton Gardens And Surrounds, NSW - Costa - 05-08-2009

Have any of you fellow squid fishers tried scenting your jigs in mashed pillies and tuna oil mix, I have not done this to date but if it breaks the dreaded one squid per session curse i'll try it! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

never tried that, but i do use some sprays/gulp juice/s-factor sometimes. there just aint many squids there nowadays. a few years back we can catch a few per session quite easily, but not anymore. i typically see 1 squid between 5 squidders in a 2-3hr afternoon session. cheap jigs dont stand a chance, these squids had seen it all <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> and there is always the issue of landing the squid from the bridge if you happen to hook a decent one, anything over a kilo will be difficult to land by yourself...

Clifton Gardens And Surrounds, NSW - slayer666 - 24-09-2009

Give Bundeena a go plenty of squid there

Clifton Gardens And Surrounds, NSW - johnv - 27-09-2009
