Boston - Striper Fishing - soccerlife945 - 27-04-2009 Sup guys, So as I've been awaiting the squid season to start, I saw a few people go striper fishing. I have many questions if some could answer. 1) Is there a place around Boston I can go, (Exact location) 2) Is it even a good time to go right now? 3) What do you use to catch them like your set up? Hope I get a few responses. Thanks Boston - Striper Fishing - TentacleWrestler - 27-04-2009 There are plenty of places to try in Boston and the surrounding area. One of the best places in the Boston area to fish for Stripers and Bluefish, was behind the J.F.K. Library. I remember as a kid that people would line the water (by the hundreds) and everyone would be catching Blues and Stripers. Unfortunately, times appear to have changed, and "keepers" are still taken, they're not being taken in the same numbers. Another place to try is Castle Island. The dock is open to the public, and has produced plenty of fish over the years. To answer your question about timing - The general rule-of-thumb, is that migratory Stripers are in Boston Harbor on May 1. I've fished Boston Harbor with my coworkers (at Logan Airport) and have taken hold-over Stripers in February. They were all small, but a blast to catch. When it comes to fishing Boston Harbor, I'm going to tell you something that's counterintuitive. FISH IT AT LOW TIDE! Supposedly, there was a book written a few years ago citing exactly what I just said. Not once have I ever caught a fish in Boston Harbor at high tide. This does not mean the fish aren't there, and I've also never thrown "meat" out there. I've always tossed top-water plugs 2 hours on either side of low tide, and been VERY successful. In fact, one of my cowkers was pulling a shallow-diving lure around low tide and pulled a 44" Striper out. It was the talk of the employee breakroom for a week or so. Good luck and tight lines! T.W. Boston - Striper Fishing - soccerlife945 - 27-04-2009 Tentacle, I was out there today, I was near the national grid thing. It was low tide like from 4-8. Caught nothing <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I was at Castle Island also, around the emergency box right in the middle. Also NOTHING <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />. Is it to early? I was using squid. Boston - Striper Fishing - 1tym - 27-04-2009 its called fishing.. not fish catching. Put your time in.. scout out locations, talk to people for advice.. learn to fish the area you choose.. there no magic button to catch fish.. a baitshop is a great place to get intel on where to fish.. what to use.. when to go. There are plenty of places to fish.. those suggested above are great locations.. its still fairly early for bass. but a few schoolies are trickling in. If you really wanna get some action.. go to castle island fishing pier. not the rotatory.. fish the night tide two hours before high.. i am 90% sure you ll get into some fish.. codfish.. use clams or shrimp or seaworms if your good... limit is 10 a day at 24" minimum Boston - Striper Fishing - soccerlife945 - 27-04-2009 Thanks 1tym, Ill try that. At castle Island, do I fish on this inside or the out side? I really hate it because it's crowded, but I'm willing to go again! You might find a few small hold overs, but no new fresh fish rigt now...you are a few weeks away from fresh fish North ofthe Cape. Boston - Striper Fishing - 1tym - 29-04-2009 plenty of cod out there.. just gotta weave through your shorts.. plus the snags.. fish outside.. you dont need to cast more than 30-40 feet. use a large pyrimad weight, you wanna stay in place than drift. Boston - Striper Fishing - soccerlife945 - 29-04-2009 I want stripers! Please tell me when I should go! Boston - Striper Fishing - soccerlife945 - 29-04-2009 I want stripers! This doesn't always apply. The run can be a few weeks early, or can be a few weeks late. I fish behind Logan Airport (employee side), and any fish I've taken was at low tide. I've been out with one of my coworkers and taken small schoolies (hold-overs) during the last week of February. They're out there, and as another poster said - there's no promise of fish. it's just a matter of putting the time in. Tight Lines! T.W.
