Needing advice on first egi rod? - Islandfisher - 21-07-2016

Hey Guys

Im after a dedicated egi rod. Have been researching for a little while but feel like i'm chasing my tail so to speak.

I will mainly be fishing from a boat but will fish from a pier occasionally. Will be pairing it up with a Daiwa Emeraldas collosal

Options so far are as follows:

Hearty rise- Posiedon $209.00

Hearty rise - Night attack $370.00

Daiwa emeraldas MX 862MH or 86ML $289.00

Pretty keen to get some advice from some more experience anglers.

Thanks all.

Hi islandfisher, I have the emeraldas mx862mh as my only squid rod. I know nothing about any other squid rod, but I enjoy using the emeraldas. I like a lot of the daiwa mid to high end rods for other applications, I own a few.. and I think you wouldn't regret buying it as your first squid rod too.

I sometimes get quite aggressive with the jigging and have fished it in fairly windy conditions, the tiny little low sitting micro guides have never given me a wind knot, one flick of the tip and anything that looks like it could be a problem , just falls away effortlessly.

The reel seat feels solid, not flimsy like some you find on light rods. When you get a big squid it just soaks up all the pulses nicely, I cannot imagine any other rod doing the job THAT much better than it already can.

I use mine mainly off the rocks, so I really wouldn't want to use anything more expensive than it, in case I break it by accident. Hope this helps some.
