Corpus Christi, Tx Squid - samsonite1 - 17-08-2009 A while back i a friend of mine gave me a "squid lure", it was is a small one but i said cool and threw it on the boat... months later (last night) we took a little voyage offshore to some rigs about 5 miles out. once out there we turn on the underwater lights and find that there are thousands of squid around the boat in varying sizes. i immediately remembered the jig and rigged it up on a small bait casting rod. after about 15 mins trying to figure out how to jig for these things was able to hook one! with another half hour of practice i was able ;to reliably get one in the boat about every 5-8 minutes or so. 2 and a half hours later i had lost a lot because they fell off the jig but i had 16 in the boat. we then decided we were tired and made the trek back to the dock. when i cleaned them i found that they all were about the same size, about 8" long including tentacles. we fried them tonight and it was the best squid I've ever had. i recently ordered an assortment of jigs incase i come across them again. anyway thought you all would enjoy the squid story in texas of all places. sorry for the placement of the topic there wassnt a G.O.M. section. Corpus Christi, Tx Squid - glen - 18-08-2009 hi freespool! welcome to the forum. we don't have a gulf of mexico section but i think "west coast" should be fine until we get some more posts on the region! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> i am in australia so i don't know whether the locals in texas dislike being called west coasters <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> cheers, glen |
