Cleaning Squid - The Other Way? - Salty_Dog - 25-09-2009 I have now been told by a couple of people now, that an amazing way to clean squid is to tow them in a catch bag behind your boat! Seems you just toss them all in a catch bag, make sure it is well tied off and drag them behind your boat on the way home. It is claimed it skins the squid, pulls the tubes off and leaves the head and tentacles separate, cleans all ink out and gives the whole lot a good tenderise. Anyone else heard or tried this method???? Cleaning Squid - The Other Way? - Salty_Dog - 25-09-2009 Sorry fellas, i just found this. http://www.squidfish.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=556 Seems it's a goer <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Cleaning Squid - The Other Way? - glen - 25-09-2009 You might also get some seagulls getting a free feed! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Cleaning Squid - The Other Way? - Salty_Dog - 25-09-2009 Am going to try this shortly, as the Snapper and squid aren't far away. Will keep a catch bag on board and take photos of the process, then post them here for people to make their mind up if it works or not. I'm pretty keen to find out myself. At the very least you will make a high speed burly trail <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Cleaning Squid - The Other Way? - Salty_Dog - 06-12-2009 Just did this and it works even better than i could of hoped. Great idea, next time I am going to try it in 2 catch bags, so the bags work together to be even more abrasive. I was also worried some parts might slip out of the bag, even though none did. It's amazing to watch, every now and then huge plumes of black ink explode into the wash as another ink sack gets smashed open. When you pull up, you're left with silky white and tender Squid... nothing more to do. |
