G'day, Neww To Squiding, Small Advice On Spot Ect. - keithy351 - 05-02-2010 g'day every, first off great site, ive been reading in the darks for a while and decided to join and post, im newish to squid fishing, meaning i have done it when i was younger but didnt know what i was doing, my first squid was caught on one of those steal barb ones with a whole pilchard on it, i dont know how i caught it, but i just chucked the thing out and left it, and went to real it in and what do u know, a decent size one... Now being a tad older, and a interest in it, i want to start squiding so i went out, and bought my first squid jig, in particular a pink yo-zuri shrimp hunter premium in size 3.5 this is my first jig (right choice????), and what ive read are the beeze neeze in squid jigs. mind you i think the squid jig is worth more then all my tackle put together. Im just wondering if i may be able to sort some advice from use, ive read alot of different techniques from the standard cast, sink, lift, sink, sort of techniques to the japanese style of 3 quick hard jerks, then allow to sink, then repeat, what do use find to be most affective in australian water fishing off rocks? also i have attached a picture, just by quick glance can use offer feedback on weather or not this spot looks productive, from the google map image it seems to be very weedy bottom which i think is good for squid??? i havnt seen people fish squid there before but neither have i been looking for ppl fishing for squid so i dont know, could be a hidden gem??? thanks everyone in advance, and look foward to your replies G'day, Neww To Squiding, Small Advice On Spot Ect. - fish'n'chippy - 05-02-2010 g'day keith where are you located? there are more knowledgeable people here than me, but i would give it a go go for a look when squid are being caught around your area it may take you a many trips to work out when they are there, tides, day/night, morning/arvo, currents, winds, etc. but there is only one way to know for sure....... fish there p.s. you are going to need more jigs <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> G'day, Neww To Squiding, Small Advice On Spot Ect. - glen - 05-02-2010 i would head straight to that rock wall! looks fishy! and squiddy <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> G'day, Neww To Squiding, Small Advice On Spot Ect. - keithy351 - 05-02-2010
i would head straight to that rock wall! looks fishy! and squiddy <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />
thanks everyone, thaks for the assistance, gonna give it a try next week, im gonna be buying a jig a week so next will be a orange yo-zuri 2.5 then a green 3.0 will let use know how i go. hopefully in a couple of months i should have a nice collection of jigs, i do alot of jewfish fishing off beaches so i wouldnt mind getting some small jigs and try catchin some little fellas, reason i bought the 3.5 was a hope to pick up some decent eatable size squid, fresh calamari rings mmmmmmmmmmmmmm G'day, Neww To Squiding, Small Advice On Spot Ect. - glen - 05-02-2010 you can catch the big ones on small jigs no worries <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> G'day, Neww To Squiding, Small Advice On Spot Ect. - keithy351 - 05-02-2010
you can catch the big ones on small jigs no worries <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />
dam so did i waist my money?
