Salt Water Fishing License - TentacleWrestler - 20-02-2010

Hi all!

The countdown is on! It's more than halfway through February, and the days are getting slightly longer!

OK, Massachusetts requires a license this year. It's free, and only takes a minute to fill out. WWW.CountMyFish.NOAA.Gov is where you sign up.

Here is my question -

Will these licenses be recognized from state to state? Or do I need to get one for each state that I intend on fishing in?

Tight Lines!

T.W.

Hi there:

I was at the Worcester fishing show and I asked the Mass Marine Fishery representatives there the same question. The answer I got from the representative was that both NH and RI will recognize the Mass saltwater license and vice versa. Too bad Maine and CT are not in the pact. I hope in the near future that all NE states can work out a deal for an interstate saltwater license (even an interstate freshwater license!). Although I don't mind paying the $10 for the saltwater license (that's the price I was told it will be at least for the first year), the whole idea of saltwater license is just another tax. No, the politicians don't call it a "tax" but a "fee" but you know it is nothing more than a tax on folks who fish.

Hey Guys,

Actually the license you are talking about is a NOAA license which is federal. As of right now Mass does not have its own license yet. If your state does not have its own state licsence the NOAA one you have works. If the state you are fishing in has its own state licesne then it won't. Next year Mass will have its own. So if you plan to fish Mass, RI, CT, NH, etc... you will need a different licesene for each, That is if all those states have their own. Confusing yes, but you are fine......for now
