There have been other piers that have been producing more consistently in Seattle! Keep hunting! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbsup2:' />

Took the kids down to Redondo last night. We were blanked. I was fixing gear more than fishing, but the kids had fun! Some folks catching squid, but the catch per unit effort was quite low, say 2-4 per hour. Looks like very small pink or green jigs were the rule. Kids were too cold to continue by 8 PM, so we left. May try Defiance tomorrow night.

Long night at the aquarium pier. Did OK. Others who left early not so lucky.

Forgot to mention the seal pup buzzing around the dock scaring the squid runs off. Where is Shamu when you need him?

Puget Sound, WA (2011 Season) - WashingtonSquid - 02-12-2011

That "pup" isnt a pup. Its a full grown harbor seal. They are a smaller species that LOVES to eat squid!

Puget Sound, WA (2011 Season) - amayuram - 02-12-2011

It likes us. Almost every time I'm there a seal shows up. They are smaller ones so they must be those harbor seals.

I'm going again tonight. I'll need lots of coffee to keep warm. It's chilly tonight.

Puget Sound, WA (2011 Season) - amayuram - 03-12-2011

Thursday night was hard fishing at the aquarium pier for few squid. 1.5 squid per hour.

Question for anyone, anyone...

What does one do when the water gets milky? Squid were caught but not very often when it was like that?

Puget Sound, WA (2011 Season) - sirsquid - 04-12-2011

Has anyone had any luck it the Tacoma area? Thinking about trying but havent heard anything <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fishing.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rod:' />

Hit the aquarium pier again last night. And again, it was hard fishing for little result. Must have been my deodorant because I stunk. Other guys were catching one or two every now and than. But, overall, I should have went to bed instead.

Are there any piers in the Seattle area that do no require a generator? I've heard that the aquarium no longer let's you use their power.

Puget Sound, WA (2011 Season) - era86 - 07-12-2011

Probably gonna try and hit the aquarium pier tonight. Those outlets still shut off huh? I'll bring my light anyway to try.

Puget Sound, WA (2011 Season) - amayuram - 07-12-2011

Last night went to see why everyone was talking about Seacrest. It was combat fishing elbow to elbow. Thought it best to leave early before claustraphobia set in. Ended up at the aquarium pier again. Did OK. But, it was cold... very cold. Green jigs and pink jigs still working. Patience is the the key. Also had to deal with that same pesky seal. Every time he buzzed around the piers the squid split. But, they did come back after 45 mins or so after the seal left. Maybe the seal smells the squid ink... just guessing.

Puget Sound, WA (2011 Season) - era86 - 07-12-2011

Seattle aquarium pier was rather slow... got about 4 squid of good size. The rest were tiny. Gonna try again tomorrow, probably around high tide. There is one outlet that works along the aquarium building near the street. The other one is on the pier near the decorations. Goodluck!

Puget Sound, WA (2011 Season) - WashingtonSquid - 08-12-2011

Gonna get after it again soon!

Boy mekim, you ever think that if a seal tried to "smell" under water, that he probably would die? Most animals that breath air dont do too good trying to smell water. Just saying. I was a fishing captain out of alaska and never witnessed a seal trying to "smell" anything underwater! LOL! I would love to see any legit evidence of a seal OR sea lion smelling ANYTHING underwater.... Dont think its possible.

Puget Sound, WA (2011 Season) - amayuram - 09-12-2011

WASquid, like I said... just guessing. Bad guess. What are the seals main senses at night underwater? Sound and a little sight? I'm just trying to figure out why the seal knows that squid are moving in and comes around. Last night was total buzz kill. The tide and weather were right. The squid just started coming in good and boom, sammy the seal shows up and the squid split. After 40 mins, when things try to pickup again, he shows up again and no more squid. Do I need to rent a killer whale for the evening to watch our backs and keep him away?

On another note... if anyone lost a pair of glasses and case on the public dock next to the aquarium pier respond here. I have them.

And also... if anyone knows a gentleman by the name of Thuong, I found his fishing license on the pier as well.

Puget Sound, WA (2011 Season) - amayuram - 09-12-2011

Just did a quick lookup, WASquid. Seals do have a keen sense of smell... just not under water. They close their nostrils before diving. Seems obvious now that WASquid brought it up. I'm clueless when it comes to obvious.

What...You were a Fishing Captain in Alaska and you never witnessed a seal smelling underwater?

My question is? Why were you underwater in the first place as a captain of a ship? Did you like.."Hit an iceberg and sink your ship"

Puget Sound, WA (2011 Season) - WashingtonSquid - 09-12-2011

LOL! Where did I say I was under water? Goof! Do you honestly think you have to be under water to watch seals?

Yeah..just like you don't have to be a Captain of a Fishing dingy in Alaska to be an expert on seals than the next squider out there..
