Sydney - NSW - cowancreekdave - 07-01-2010 Look up on google "Tackle shops" and also type the place you are staying. It will come up with tackle shops in the area. Technology these days A light graphite fishing rod will be perfect, 7 foot looks good. Yamashita and Yozuri jigs are the go The squid are around, I started under a month ago and have found it realtively fun and rewarding to persist with squidding. Squid like the following will be a breeze to catch Sydney - NSW - Tribina - 07-01-2010
Look up on google "Tackle shops" and also type the place you are staying. Sydney - NSW - g.g - 26-01-2010 i went to jefferies st wharf last night... it was absolutely packed. apparently this was because someone had come and caught over 70 squid there the night before... well thats the story anyway. got there at about 8pm low tide was at 10:30pm, and high at 5:30am. i didnt catch anything at all til about 3am. then all of a sudden, everyone on the wharf started pulling in squid (between 10 and 30 cm) continuously, until i left at about 4:30am to throw some live baits out at a better spot. The problem is though, fishing for squid for more than 20 minutes in the same spot can become rather boring as they are either there or theyre not, i tend to give it 15 minutes then move on to my next spot.. The bigger ones must have come up on the high tide, were you fishing out the front of the wharf or behind it up against the rocks?? Sydney - NSW - ben1847 - 19-06-2010 Haha hey Dave hows it going mate? I can vouch for the guys that managed 70 squid, it was about 4 or 5 guys and it was just a massive school of southern calamari cruising through, occasionly u will get this occuring in spots but it is really rare to come across them. Went out last night and managed a few nice size calamari, got to love winter squid =] Sydney - NSW - Mitch - 20-09-2010 Anyone fished off the Bundeena ferry wharf in Port Hacking? Ive seen a few nice size squid down there. Sydney - NSW - Budda - 29-09-2010 Well after a slow winter of one's and two's I have been eagerly awaiting spring to come and what a great night it was last Sunday. Managed 7 in all. 5 for me and two my mate. The highlight was me bringing in a good sized squid and shone the torch out to track it in so I could wash him up only to see an even bigger squid trailing. A quick call to my mate and he winds in flicks the jig out and after a 3 second stare at the jig - whammo! It was getting late but there was a spot we liked the look of when we trecked in so we decided to give it a quick flick and second cast I bring in a stud. All mine were caught on a $3.50 no name jig in orange colour. My Daiwa's , Yama's and Yo Zuri's stayed in the pouch all night! Enjoy the pics! Sydney - NSW - glen - 30-09-2010 nice pics mate! thanks for sharing!
good stuff. thats the diawa E-GEE reel isnt it?? i looked at one the other day and am keen on getting it, how do u find urs? cheers Sydney - NSW - Budda - 02-10-2010 yes it is the Daiwa E-Gee> I own just about every top end daiwa Reel including the new Emeraldas, Certates, Exists etc. mate the E-Gee is great value for money have been using it for about 9 months solid now and I really am impressed with it. Good drag, machine cut handle.Look it's not going to be as tight as a $600 reel but for the money it's all you need for squidding. I haven't bothered using my Emeraldas for squid yet - it's still sitting in it's box after 6 months. The E-Gee might still be on sale with Plat Japan Tackle Store or you can buy them locally online for $199 with free post - Ray and Anne's and Motackle for instance Sydney - NSW - glen - 03-10-2010 that motacle store had adverts on tv the other day. i think it was channel 31 in melbourne. Sydney - NSW - LOYAL DRAGON - 29-12-2010 Got out yesterday with a friend of mine and leaned properly How to catch Squid. Firstly dont take any other fishing gear as you can get bored quickly when they are not on. Focus and dont give up. Find a kelp bed thats near sand and of rocks. Type of Jigs, cheap one work but found the top liners will double even triple your catch. the end result was fantastic feed and some bait as well. These were caught around the Sydney harbor heads Sydney - NSW - Nautilusly - 29-12-2010 Nice catch and a few big ones there! was you on a boat or landbased?
