G'day Ben,

That is a pretty solid effort. I haven't been on this site for a while and its amazing how much it has grown.

I have had some fairly good catches down the South Coast, but all in things are quite slow as the holiday makers gave the area a good hit - most of the squid are in hiding I think.

I'll get some pics up shortly.

Its been a while in between Inkers two long . I sold most of my fishing gear and kayak back in Feb 09 but kept my beach & BlackFishing Gear and of course my Squiding Gear . The last few weeks all I have been thinking about is getting back down to one of my spots and try and get back into my Squiding and hope back in to Fishing overall .Got down to my spot around 5am cast cast cast no hits <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> I thought I will give it a little longer just before first light I got a hit I remembered what that felt like <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> from standing cold and about to pack up I suddenly woke up and was so excited to be reeling in a good size Inker .

after that I didnt catch anything else apart for one angry looking cuttle fish which I let go after a quick pic I have heard they are good eating but have not yet been bothered to take one home for the table. It was Awsome to get back out for a session I was keen but not to keen as This spot I usualy have to wade through water waist deep to get to different platforms at high tide and I just wasn't keen to wade through the cold water so Limited myself by staying at the one spot for the whole session

I might of sold most of my fishing gear but I kept the Gear that I would always come back to One of my Favorite is Squiding <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> Now I just have to find some weed and dust of my Blackfish gear and get the float back in the water

Cheers Ben

Hey ben, what is a good bait for blackfish? I am guessing they eat the same stuff as our zebra fish down here?

They can be caught on all type of weed but mostly cabbage weed and stringy greed weed, and also brown weed but that some times has its time and its place. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I mainly fish for the BlackFish in my local River so I mainly use the stringy type weed type more like a horse hair texture or the stringy weed which is more ribbon like texture. I have hit a school of BlackFish with my Mate fishing of the rocks for Drummer using Bread for bait and they were taking bread on a small hook with a small pea sized sinker .But Mainly of the Rocks Cabbage would be the bait used to target them . I dont know anything about the Zebra Fish must look that one up?

Have you been getting into the Inkers ?

Cheers Ben

Sydney - NSW - Costa - 06-08-2009

Hi Ben,

quick question mate, do you believe that the specialised squid rods are worth getting? Have they improved your catch rate?. I have been away from squidding for a while but I got a decent inker down at the Bare Island bridge last saturday and I am keen for another session. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Guys.

I'll be heading down to Sydney next month.

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some tackle shop contacts and what lenght of rod to bring if I wanna go on Ike hunting????

Where would be a good spot to hunt for them?

hi every1,

firstly id like to say... 'great site!!!'

i am new here, this being my first post.

i squid in the harbour. has any1 tried out jefferies street wharf near luna park? i go there alot and have found that at the right time (high tideish) the water is full of inkers... sometimes u can see up to 10 small squid following the jig on retreive.

mainly they r tiny (10cm) in under the wharf, but there r some bigger ones too.

i have cast a few out as live bait, about 2 meters under the surface and what do u think has mainly been brought in?? nice size squid (40-50cm).

they let go of the bait when they get in close to the wharf, but i always have a jig ready on another rod and have managed to catch a few of them.

i have no pictures as i was not expecting to find such a great site, but i will make sure to take some next time i am out.

I've always thought about going there but i have never been, when do you tend to go? early morning? late afternoon? night? i've always thought it would be a decent spot at night considering there are SO many lights there

Sydney - NSW - g.g - 03-01-2010

i usually go there at night, and they r hanging out all around the wharf.

but be warned, the wharf gets very crowded some nights (weekends) as many people go there to catch squid... plus, the fishing is good.

Thanks for the tip though, ill prob head down sometime next week after work, im only down the road anyway

I was at taronga zoo a short time ago and the rocks around that area look good for inkers.

if I lived in sydney it would be a spot I would fish.

I went to Jeffreys on Sunday night, got one squid first cast but nothing after that, i went up around to the wharf out the front of Luna Park with no success
