I saw that the preferred way to cook squid is "deep fry" as calamari. While that is good, another way is to stuff them with pre-cooked spanish rice with either the tentacles chopped up or sausage or crab or whatever strikes your culinary fancy mixed in, cover them with salsa or "fishy" sauce and bake them for a short time. Yes, they do look a bit weird that way, but they are delicious!
The number one thing to remember is that over cooking them tends to render a texture reminiscent of Florsheims.

Well? From what I gathered this season..Them Squids (At least the Big ones) are nowhere near Shore as the weather just hasn't been cold enough..They are exactly 1-3 miles from shore just hanging out in there thermocline.
I only say this as I have been massacring them on my boat.. From Mukilteo down to Elliot Bay..Just where ever it is dark and no lights around. Just keep your boat between 80-100ft depth and just turn on your generator with bright lights and drift with engine off. The school will keep following you..
So? I say it is time to stop being lazy and dock jiggin it..Go break out your boats if you got em..
If you don't?..Now is a great time to get a very understanding Friend who has a boat into squid jiggin... GICK GICK GICK!

Do you think it will work in the Alki area? I got a boat but just wasn't sure if I should head out there not knowing if I am going to catch anything. Are you catching them squids when you are out? If you are, can you take some pics and post them? I believe we all want to see what you are talking about. Thanks for the info!!

Hmm? I never tried drifting Alki Area..I don't see why it wouldn't work..I would think that barge in the middle of Elliot Bay would be a great start..
Honestly? If I was gonna launch from Alki..I would probably head straight over to pier 86..And go around back where it use to be HOT Jiggin a few years back before they blocked it off... Seems like that is another Spawning area for them squids..
Are you askin me to snap a photo of a Squid next time on my outing? or Snap a Photo of myself in the middle of squid massacring..Not exactly sure what your askin here..

10/13. Went to Kingston tonight and must have caught the very tail end of the bite. It was around 2030 or 2100 hrs, 2nd cast caught 2 nice sized squid at the same time. Using a Colman's Clear bullet jig in line with Colman's Squid Claw. Half hour later caught a tiny guy and that was it. All 3 squid were caught right off the bottom, but then it's not very deep there. Also noticed some of the lights were out by the passenger ferries, wonder if that may have helped my cause. Stayed out until 0030 hrs.
I'll take it, these are the first squid I've ever caught :thumbsup2:and they came after a month or so of trying.
There is at least one seal who has taken up residence and as soon as he came poking around things got quiet, though I caught the small one after the seals appearance.

Ok, that's supposed to be 11/13. That's what I get for posting so early in the AM.
11/14 Went to Kingston dock again. Line in the water at about 2030hrs. I was pulling them up pretty consistently until about 2200. Brought in 20 squid all but 3 were very nice size. Same rig as yesterday. Actually all the conditions were the same except the seal. The bite ended at almost exactly 1 1/2 before peak high tide. I noticed that the bait fish had moved on or got spread out.There was no heavy current or swell and the water was clear.

So we launched from GG at 6:30. Beautiful evening to be on the water. Fished for about 2.5 hours with only small (3"-4") squid in the light. We caught nothing but still had fun. Guess we'll have to return.

On Friday 11-12, We tried in the area over to pier 86 with our boat, parked right next to the big ship and in front of the pier, got 1 in one hour. move south and got 2 in the next hour. It was raining and slow, however, we saw a guy on the pier was pulling them in pretty consistently.
So the next night, we brought our lights to pier 86 and fished for about 3 hours, there were 3 or us and no one else. We caught about 40-50 small ones. That was fun!! It's been awhile since we pull in consistently. Will try again.

Yeah? Actually I haven't gone out for over a week now as my Boat needed to get serviced..I been hearing that the squids are finally moving closer to shore..At least the big ones.. First time out in a while, Went to Kingston tonight , from about 5:30 to 7. It was low tide and the water was only about 10 feet deep in most places that the light touched, if even that. still, i managed two dozen good sized squid. these were about twice the size of the ones i was catching there this summer. I am glad i didn't wait till later to go as there is thunder rolling in the background now and it started raining pretty good. I saw some massive schools of squid down there tonight, but most were moving through pretty quick. i wonder if they would stick around a little longer if the tide was high.

The glove thing was my fault. When the wife mentioned needing gloves I just grabbed a pair (at least they were made by the same Co.) Otherwise we'd have been another half hour later.
