HAHA!!! I love how you asians leave verbs out of sentences all the time, makes reading it all the more humorous! I will do my best to get there, but it isn't looking good...will you be down there Saturday?

-Travis
Whoa whoa whoa.... not all asians leave verbs out, Travis <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Newport, Ri - 2008 Squid Season - Fluffy - 02-05-2008

*sigh* It's gonna be freezing all weekend (high 50's or so according to the weatherman). Has there ever been a year before when the squid just haven't showed up in force? There was that false alarm 2 weeks ago, then a week or so with nothing caught, and maybe 10 squid caught per day for the past week (correct me if I'm wrong.) Definitely they were coming by the busload this time last year, so the only explanations I can think of are that a) the cold weather is keeping them away, or <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> something happened wherever they spend the summer to totally decimate the population, and whatever's left is making the run now.

...Or maybe it's all global warming. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

I sincerely hope they're just being lazy or something and will show eventually. Not only would it totally suck if we didn't get any this year because they're all dead or something, it would also blow since there wouldn't be any NEXT year either.

Wait, I know! It's a conspiracy by the Hyatt people to get rid of all the crazy squidheads!!! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/zorro.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Newport, Ri - 2008 Squid Season - 74Formula233 - 02-05-2008

OK, I have been reading this forum a couple years and finally signed up......

Last night we found squid there.....good numbers....but had snapper blues chasing the small bait around and spooking the squid....squid wouldn't touch the jigs no matter what we tried.

My buddy managed 4 all night, me 0. He got his deep. We tried everything.

Big ones are there, and large schools of small ones came thru as well.

BTW, Fort Getty had them too.

You guys crack me up with the asians and the verbs LOL. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

I've met a lot of good guys down there the last couple years......some I can talk with, others.....well.....hand motions do <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Anyways, i have spent many a night till 4AM and such down there.......addicting.

Squid spawn year round so decimating the population is highly unlikely. If we don't see them in numbers by monday, i'd be a little concerned

Newport, Ri - 2008 Squid Season - flukeprodigy - 02-05-2008

Now here's a random question. Can you throw a casting net to catch squid? I've seen them in enormous schools before where had I had a casting net, I could've made a killing

I don't see why not, my buddy had one last weekend but no squid. I havn't sen any literature with any regs on squid. Gonna give it a go this weekend, the wife has been asking to go, I think we got her

I am extremely doubtful you can use a cast net... even though they sell them at SportsAuthority.

do a search for "net" and you can see it.

some people use those "tangle" nets (not sure what it's called) to catch sea herrings back in the days, but i'm sure that was totally illegal.

Newport, Ri - 2008 Squid Season - eatfish - 02-05-2008

Bait Nets: A person may usea small net of no more than 200 square feet inside many of the bays and estuaries of the Commonwealth for the sole purpose of obtainingbait fish for personal use. Use of larger netsrequires a special permit. Contact DMF for details

Newport, Ri - 2008 Squid Season - Tatonka - 02-05-2008

I say...."Squid come when they come". Every year predictions are made, and made, and made. Times, dates, tides, moons, temps, currents, winds, blossums, etc. This year with all the hype it seems 100x worse. When they hit, they'll hit. When their thick, their thick. Mark my words, they'll come. (And yes, I do feel sorry for those that drive great lengths to try and meet there arrival.)

Remember, their apart of a vast ecosystem of our Oceans. They come to spawn, and they shall on my plate. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Cheers,

Tatonka

I was bored and started looking at 2007 post. Found out people didn't start filling up buckets till May 1st. Even though it's going to be raining this May 2nd, I'll still might make it.

Side note: found my old name Squidmon, I forgot it this year and made a new one.

Newport, Ri - 2008 Squid Season - kacewicz - 03-05-2008

This time last year water temp in Newport harbor was 58.5 degrees and squid were running heavy. It's only 52-53 now.
Hello everyone.

I have been lurking for a bit now and am impressed with how well this forum has been shaping up.

I know a few of the guys here from other forums and wonder how many of you I have jigged with or by without even knowing it.

I will be down at the GI location this Friday night. There should be a decent amount of us from another forum there as well. I am bring my generator and 2000 watts of light. yeehawwww. Let the 2008 season begin.

That being said, I drafted up a little MS Word document you can edit to identify yourself, if you so choose. I will have mine, laminated, near me and would welcome anyone saying HI from the site.

Remember, pick up your trash and that of others. No debate, just do it. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />

See you on Friday night.

- ATG
I printed my thing out... see y'alls tonight.

I'll be wearing my orange gear.

Newport, Ri - 2008 Squid Season - flukeprodigy - 03-05-2008

man this weather SUCKS. I dunno about the rest of you but I'm getting real sick of the rain.

So who's going tomorrow night? I wanna see hands people <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />

I may take tuesday off and go monday night for the new moon. If anyone wants to try then as well, please let me know. My brother can't make it up this year b/c he started his own lure company and has his hands full filling orders which means i"ll be flying solo. If anyone is interested in some seriously high quality striper plugs and/or needlefish, let me know and I'll talk to him for you or tell you what shops will be carrying his lures. Trust me when I say the quality is outstanding.
