Going to try Beverly on Fri. To all the guys who frequent there, what rug works best? I usually just switch between a 2.5 yamashita that sinks pretty slow, and a green Coleman that has the wide hook. Haven't used sinkers yet, are they necessary in Beverly? Thanks for the help to all.

I'm no scientist, but it seems to me that the increase in squid numbers on the North Shore could be related to the "fast spreading" invasive species of shrimp first discovered in Salem in 2010..
About a month ago, I was on the Willows Pier using my underwater light, the shrimp were like a cloud around the light, and when I removed the light from the water, hundreds of them were clinging to it...

Anthony where are you fishing for squid on the east end? I've been there twice
on the east side of the harbor by the power plant. Both nights combined I saw
a total of 13 squid swimming and they wanted nothing to do with my offerings.
Both times were at high tide and it was definitely not loaded with squid like the
reports from canal bait and tackle wrote of. Gave it 4 hrs each outing. As for
RI they forgot what squid look like.

Right on the bulkhead off freezer road by the bathrooms. With the old lights you could see whole schools swim right up. The water was illuminated and you were able to see at least 5 feet down. Now you can't see anything and the squid stay deep. I haven't seen a school since they changed the lights. We used to see them all the time with the old ones.

Not sure if the old lights were HPS or not. I'm thinking they were something a little unusual. The spectrum was very yellowish green and seemed to pull them right in.

I have yet in my lifetime caught a squid in the cape cod canal. As for the lights I know
they looked yellow but not sure if that was the lamp (bulb) or the lens creating that
color, sorta like a bug light. Wife just came back from cape and she has yet to notice
the new lights and last time I was there it was still the yellow lights. Got 24 hrs now
to go fishing. Either sea bass half day tomorrow afternoon or squidding Friday night.

Anthony, I have a basic battery powered green underwater fluorescent... JaNz has a much nicer LED version. The one like mine can be had for about $30 on Amazon... Does it attract squid?? What I've seen it do is attract and hold baitfish. Once the bait is held,trhe squid come a'knocking...

Hope to see ya tonight, Mine is an led green (still wondering if the white would
have been better) but its pretty darn bright and runs about 3-4 hrs on one of
those $40. emergency jump starters. On the down side its $132. including
shipping but it has its own weight and a 25ft cord and they say you can run it over
with a vehicle and it will still work, which works out for me because I'm constantly
dropping stuff and breaking stuff. It is very well built and sealed.
Bet you wont be wearing shorts tonight.

Anthony if you can make it tonight it should be prime conditions if the
squid are still there. Hi tide 12:30am moonset at 8pm so no light from
sky. If they are still there should get some action. Gunslinger remind
me tonight to give you some snapper zappers.

and that was selling for $129. it sorta looked
like an older version as mine looked a bit different.
As for the green vs white I'm still in the air about
that, Ive caught them with above water halogens
running off my generator better it seems than the
submersed green light. But ya it is bright, even
when down 10 ft in the water someone walking a 1/4
mile away can see the green glow.

Fished Beverly from 10pm to 2am. When I got there it was only
a handful of people fishing. Tried a few diff spots and looked in
peoples buckets only to see therm empty or 1 squid. I was there and
with it being so deserted I was able to fish all the diff "good" spots
without anyone else there. It was slow to say the least, the water
was cloudy and loaded with jelly fish. Worked my way out to end of the
pier and furthest out (deep water) got 3 squid in 4 casts and thought
this is OK as one of them was the largest I caught this year 10" from
tip of funnel to the mantel. Well that died as soon as it started so
made the circle again and took one here and there but when I got out the
end of the pier again I took a 9 1/2" making it the second biggest this
year. For the night I ended up with 11 squid for 4 hrs effort so I
would say its slow.
It was like homey night out there, Gunslinger, Anthony and even a non
member who reads these posts was there and they did about the same. It
was good to meet these guys and certainly hope to see them again. I don't
think its totally over yet but the big number nights have certainly left us.

I Got ready to head up to Salem with my boat.
On the way there my trailer brakes lock up so I by pass it, but my SUV is not heavy enough to stop a 4000 lbs boat and trailer.
Going shopping for a F250 or a Tundra.
Damn they expensive.
