Newport, Ri - 2007 Squid Season - FlyByNight - 24-04-2007

I checked tonight on the way home from work. It was dead, dead, dead. No squid, no one fishing, no ink stains on the causeway. Ack.

Water still dirty & onshore breeze. First qtr. moon. I'm thinking after full moon things will go good. Just my guess.

I went by the causeway at lunch today and it looked dead. There was one desultory fisherman on the bridge and no ink stains to be seen.

What's going on? Did the squid trawlers wipe out the catch?

No. They have been trawling for decades.

Went to the bridge to jig for a while this afternoon. A few other people there as well...but no sign of any squid yet.

Newport, Ri - 2007 Squid Season - FlyByNight - 28-04-2007

I went last night around dusk, and it was slow, but my wife reeled me in after 1/2 hour. One guy did catch a single, gigantic squid just as I was leaving. I asked a fellow named "Edward" to take a digital picture of it and email it to me. Edward, I still have not got that email; please send. Post the picture here also; maybe it is some other species.

I went to the causeway at lunch today and there were no squid (only fished for 15 minutes) and no one fishing for them. Gonna try again tonight in the rain....

I have since learned that this is not uncommon, but it is the biggest I have ever seen:

I went last night and fished for about an hour in the rain. Nothing happening for any of us.

Newport, Ri - 2007 Squid Season - kacewicz - 30-04-2007

Anyone get any squid yet last night or today in Newport? This anticipation is driving me crazy!!!

Newport, Ri - 2007 Squid Season - luftnpanzrwagn - 01-05-2007

I recently posed a question to someone/thing that might know a thing or two about a squids favorite color.

I finally got a reply... very informative <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':moped:' />

Hi Guys...I'm a newbie and this is my first post. I have a 18-foot boat and want to fish squid for the first time. Please tell me when I can launch my boat then park my trailer. Is it somewhere near Goat Island? Fort Adams? Just need a public ramp and a parking spot...so exitec and can't wait any longer.

ps. If ANY ONE can give me a GPS co-ordiante for the boat ramp and/or the parking it would be GREATLY appreciated. Still alot to read and learn.

Here is a link to 3 public boat ramps in Newport harbor. Fort Adams probably has the only space to leave a trailer and car easily.
