Whatever works though, so if you do better with a light that's great.I read your equipment selections a few times, and I was only going to bring my 7' Penn one peice with a Penn Battle3 loaded with 20lb and use a floro light leader, but now you got me pulling out my trout rods, a 5' and 6' light action with 4lb and 6lb line.  I will still bring the big rod incase I move over to the Canal. Plus in the Canal we might see schools of Mackerel soon too. I keep waiting to hear reports of squid in Newport to start heading to Falmouth, Woods Hole, and Onset.Â

I have been reading posts on this forum going back years, and a few years back, they mentioned that Onset sometimes does ok. If you look at the satellite photo on google maps of the west end of the canal, Onset is really close to the Mass Maritime academy. I know its a GREAT spot for Bass, and fluke. I live up by the intersection of 95/495 and hitting Onset is a lot quicker than heading to Falmouth or Woods Hole if I make a run after work. I will post if I have any luck in Onset, the town pier there is pretty nice.Â

I went to MMA and used to fish for squid there. It was really good by the school ship. I remember a few people catching them by the rail road bridge. Temp is 49 in woods hole it should be any day now. Has anyone tried yet?

One of my friends says he caught squid last night at Newport Bridge.
He caught half bucket. Most About 12inch size or bigger.
