Squid Fishing In Singapore - stoon_goh - 06-06-2008
Hi squiddie

There are various factors to look at; the current flow, water condition, type of jig you used, the presentation of your jig and most important part is to be hardworking.

Depth?

The deeper the better but be carefull of the seaweed and coral below.

Actually, i don't think depth was an issue. For my experience, squid normall will hide around the place where have rocks or smthing which they can hide them self. By the way, i think around Punggol jetty was nice place to get them.

Hi stoon

Labradour Park is a natural park found in the west side of Singapore opposite Sentosa island. There is a Jetty which is open from 9.00am to 8.00pm where you can try eging and fishing. The front part of the jetty is not allowed to fish as there were some marine studies on coral going on. you can always drop me a email at davidpys@hotmail.com

HI david,

Thanks for ur advice. But since i've been there to check, i think labrador park was suit to fishing but not squid jigging. Anyway, i'll plan to go there again and will prepare somre more fishing equipment which means not only squid jigging equipment.

Hi Davidphan, nice catch you have there. i tried egging at labrador jetty, not bad caught 1 small squid within 1 hour, but as mentioned close at 8pm, have yet to try the other sites at labrador, where will you recommend, as I usually only free at night, only been going to punggol. btw am new to egging when is the best tide to catch squid? i been going at incoming tide with moderate success but always very small squids or cuttlefish.

Cheers

Hi AlienLion

The best will be the incoming tide during the early evening. Punggol Jetty is a very good spot for squid but the only problem is too many people. What size of jig you used? {recommended to be at least 2.0 to 2.5} Do let the jig sink down to the bottom and retrieve slowly with some jigging, then you will have a better chance to get a bigger squid. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Thanks Daivdphan for your reply and advice. Been using size 1.7 - 2.5, i try to vary the sizes and brands and colors. past few times, not much luck on squids, always swopping between fishing after eging for awhile with no success. waiting for bedok jetty to reopen in March, will try fishing and eging there. never tried before, went 2 weeks ago but close for reno. punggol jetty is too crowded, been there but as always too pack so drive over to punggol 17, better but also getting crowded, hahhaha i think i need to buy a kayak and paddle out to sea soon.

Cheers
Hi glen

The squid jig is made of normal string using the method of chinese knoting and form into the shape of a shrimp. The hooks are normal fishing hooks tie together.

well if you have a chance to visit singapore, do inform me. I could make you a special squid jig. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/images2.jpg' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' />
Hi David!

I'm new to this forum. I search for home made lure and saw yours. Its astonishing! Could you please tell me how to make one? Or could you tell me how much would it cost to make one??
