There were a couple people there from the site but guess there are more on the GI bridge. All sounds god but don't have a bucket.
I thought your not allowed to fish under the Newport Bridge. I believe there's a sign there off the one of the pillars. Hows the squiding around that area KingyFisher? -Tatonka-
Very good indeed. Northern Calamari are a very pretty squid and grow to quite large sizes. I heard they were using size 7 <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> jigs which are huge. I got a smaller one of 3lb,but some are 10lb and up ! Newport Ri - Identifying Oneself - fritz - 21-04-2009 This is my first attempt at being on a forum so I hope this works. I'm out on the Cape (Cod) and had great success the year before last in Chatham but it was lean last year. I'm starting to keep track and wondered if anyone can give me some guidance as to when I should start to look for them down here. I hadn't done this since I was a kid and was really pleased at how nice everyone was even when it got crowded. It's not always that way with stripers ,tuna, fluke, or cod. Should I expect the years to vary like scallops or was last year, (or the year before), the exception? Thanks, Fritz Newport Ri - Identifying Oneself - Striper1 - 21-04-2009
I thought your not allowed to fish under the Newport Bridge. I have not seen any signs and there are usually others that haven't seen it either. This year may be different though. I do not live in that area but enjoy the trek to NEwport at least annually. I have been squid fishing the Goat Island bridge for a few years now. It is a great time and looked forward to all winter. There are so many wonderful members of this board and others whom all add to the experience. some I know and others, many, I don't or can't recognize all bundled up. sooooo...... does anyone have any interest or ideas on how to identify oneself as a member of the squidfish.net community with your userID? I was thinking a sign with squidfish.net and your userID affixed to your cart, cooler or bucket? I could make up an demo one so that they all looked the same for ease of identification. See the attached MS Word Doc. Just an idea. thoughts? Comments? - ATG
Coool! <<Dalilama81779>> Newport Ri - Identifying Oneself - wgendreau - 12-05-2009 I am invetigating the possibility of gettting t-shirts printed with the G.I.S.S. logo printed on the back. These would be a short sleeve gray t-shirt. Getting pricing now. If price is good would any one be interested? Obviously you won't see it at night but it's pretty apparent in the day. It's almost as bad as running Northeast past the bridge where the Navy would gun you down. Newport Ri - Identifying Oneself - kingyfisher - 21-05-2009 My latest & greatest jig is a Yamashita. It's a 1.8 size ,2 sets of jags ,& a candy stripe diagonal pattern in pink & white on the sides pale pink back and off white underside. Absolutely deadly on 'Calamari' type squid in shallow water ! Have got 30 on it in two outings and not had a single follow WITHOUT a take ! |
