Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - BillG - 19-05-2015 Anyone catching any squid in the daylight from shore on Aquidneck Island? I have a couple hours tonight before sunset in what will be near the top of the incoming tide. However, I haven't any luck catching in the daylight. Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - CalamaroItalia - 19-05-2015 Hey guys, quick question. I know that, when washing squid, the typical texture is smooth and a little slimy. But I rcently came across some that appear to be a bit thick and almost "rubbery" (at least around the tail section). Has anyone felt these kind, and are they safe to eat? Thanks. Previously frozen or non-longfin squid can be rubbery. That said, what part of the squid is the "tail"? Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - cmoney - 19-05-2015 No squid for Newport but still the parking lot is full.  So there is plenty of time to do other things like pick up your trash.   Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - CalamaroItalia - 19-05-2015 Quote:Previously frozen or non-longfin squid can be rubbery. But I'm referring to freshly-caught squid (so, squid that you just caught and then brought home to wash/clean). As I was washing some the other night I noticed a rubbery feel for a few, but I'm wondering if that is due to sitting on ice for a few hours. Oh yea, by "tail" I meant the end that doesn't have the tentacles (wasn't sure how to refer to it, and I had a feeling someone would call me on it), lmao! If it's fresh I wouldn't worry about it. As for daytime squidding, at GI from 5:45 to 7 this evening and didn't see a squid caught. Talked to a guy who said he was there all day and didn't see one caught the whole time. Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - Teezer - 19-05-2015 Just got home, slow night, maybe 15 squid total...... Where are they??? It should be better. I have also not seen any boats under the Newport bridge Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - Snktido - 19-05-2015 Gigantic industrial size squidding boat in the area. Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - CalamaroItalia - 19-05-2015 Oh great, now the draggers are starting up. As if things weren't slow enough. I just read the latest squidding report from Frances Fleet. Appears that the action is very slow for them too. Is it possible that we're still some time away from peak season? Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - Squiderbruce - 20-05-2015 Another bust night at JT, few were caught but it was very spotty. Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - OneEyedSquid - 20-05-2015 Few shy squid caught near GI.  Didn't see any surface.  Hopefully this weekend will turn out good. Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - 1LuckySquid - 20-05-2015 Caught 2 squids out at JT over the weekend about 4 hrs on n off. That 2 squids tasted super for late dinner that night. :woot: Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - Teezer - 20-05-2015 I got maybe 20 or so Monday night in Newport. I thought it was going to be better, but nooooooooot. And again they seemed on the small side. Newport Ri 2015 Squid Season - RiBassGuy - 21-05-2015 Went Friday night to Jamestown bridge, marked some nice balls of squid. Puts lights out and had a lot of 1/2" to 3" come to the boat with a few large ones streak thru with no takers. Left there and fished in front of wickford harbor managed a few extra large tubes. Night got cut short when I blew my lower unit. Sometime after launching I managed to pick up a hew hundred yards of heavy braid in the lower unit and blew the seals.
